keanureeves: I'm pissed at Dean for being so mean and hypocritical and pretty much driving Cas to become what we ended with. I am mad at Sam for letting Dean torture when he, of all people, knows how that effects Dean. I am mad at Bobby for forgetting his family speech to Dean from Lucifer Rising and not extending it to Cas.
But I can't bring myself to be angry at Cas. Because, while what he did was wrong and the complete opposite of everything he has been working for since Lazarus Rising, he was let down by everyone he trusted and considered his family. Even the strongest person would break from the weight of that disapproval.
a-little-more-sonic: The only person I’m not angry at in the finale is Cas. I honestly don't understand what happened to Dean and Sam and Bobby. I mean really. Cas has done so much for them, and they can't bring themselves to trust him, just once?

Still not over S6 finale - and what I need to see in S7: I actually don’t mind that they went haywire with Castiel’s development because I frankly think most of fandom see Cas as this cute, naive and wibble angel who's sweet and compassionate and every inch the nice guy when he isn't. He’s a soldier first and foremost [...] So I can understand why he went Warlord on everything, becoming Machiavellian wherein winning is the only thing in his mind because the price of losing was just too much (end of the world).
What I don’t understand (and I doubt I’ll ever understand) is why in the world did Dean, Sam AND Bobby, all trained and experienced hunters and far from stupid, think that "working with Crowley" was the WORST thing that could ever happen. Cas did NOT fail to mention that losing the war means apocalypse 2, and somehow that thing just flew over their heads.
Let’s not even get to the fact that Dean, Sam AND Bobby all made deals with demons when THEY were desperate. So why are they condemning Cas for the same shit? [...] They obviously made ALL of S6 about everyone betraying Cas. It just NEVER made sense.
I’ll accept "redemption" for Cas in the sense that he’d willingly step down on his self-appointed throne by some miracle (be it friendship, love or sacrifice but on DEAN/SAM/BOBBY’s side and not Cas. Cas had sacrificed enough imo), or Chuck-God shows up and… I don’t know, slap his hands or something.
But killing off Cas is just... really going to piss off a lot of people. Especially OVER THIS.
[...] This whole nonsense about Sera’s line of people weaving in and out of Dean and Sam’s lives is just... crap. So apparently, Dean and Sam will never have anybody. People will always die on them or betray them or kill them. [...]
I’m not a Dean/Lisa fan and I’m very glad Lisa and Ben can go on with their lives safe and happy, but we all know that this is just going to be one more huge chip on Dean’s shoulder. One more reminder that he can NEVER have ANYTHING without destroying it.
And just look at Cas. He HAD Cas. He also destroyed Cas. Isn’t that a reminder, too. [...] So I want to know what good and amazingly sensible reason can the SPN writers come up with for Dean, Sam AND Bobby to try and kill Cas… IF they try and kill Cas.
Because "becoming God" is just not good enough a reason.

Ben Edlund on Castiel's betrayal: Who knew that our friendly neighborhood angel baby-in-a-trenchcoat was capable of such deceit and destruction?
Dean Winchester certainly didn’t. [The Man Who Would Be King] episode serves as a shocking wake up call to Dean, especially given the fact that he's finally back on track with his brother, as he learns the extent of Castiel's betrayal. The hits just keep on coming for Dean, and this time, it's likely worse than you think.
"He won’t like it. Familial betrayal is his kryptonite, so to speak. It’s his thing. It’s the thing he hates worse than any other thing, and he has brought Cas into the family, so the math there has a clear outcome. It’s going to hurt him deeply even to discover what we understand to be the case right now, which is that Cas is capable of working with a demon. Even that is going to be so painful. It’s going to be a hard week for that good-looking bastard."
We asked Edlund whether the writers hesitated to explore Castiel’s dark side, given his tendency to lend humor to the show. "I had my hesitations," he admits, "because I like the fish-out-of-water, dumb jokes, and I like Cas. I like the thing on camera that Misha created that complemented this new strain of creature, this angel coming into our world and gave a body and character to it. That's a really great thing. But one of the rules of Supernatural is loss, and losing things. You have to love something before you can feel its loss."
