Wanting and warming and cautiously waiting*
In the afternoon, while my parents went off to the reception in conmemoration of Mexico's independence - El grito - I worked on the Push Fanvid for Supernatural I started over a year now. I'm at minute 2:15 - blessedly past the horrid and endless guitar riff - but there's about 1:37 minutes left, and that's including a repetition-of-lyrics at the end.
It's about how being a hunter - being Sam and Dean - is a life where bad things happen to them (even if they're the cause of good things happening in other people) and it's also about the demands and effect of Papa Winchester on their lives.
I'm a tad stumped on the coming verse, which is going to be Dean-centric. If you'd like to fling ideas at me, or have me bounce them off of you, do continue reading.
The verse (listen) comes after a guitar riff showing the boys as children decidedly not having things like stability, normality or even their father on Christmas Day. The Dean-centric verse is:
Hands gripped to the wheel
Held too tight to feel
Face pressed to the glass
Please don't ask
One more breath, one more
It's alright
Now, Please don't ask is going to focus on Dean, Alistair (the torture), and possibly Demon!Dean. One more breath, one more may go with Dean's Hell flashbacks (the one where he's huddled over the sink - It's the Great Pumpkin, Sam Winchester, I think - comes to mind). It's alright will carry on with Demon!Dean and possibly the Impala smash.
But as for the first three lines, I'm drawing a blank. Hands gripped to the wheel calls to mind Dean all alone in the car during The End (or, while we're at it, Swan Song). However, the next two lines have me stumped. If I go the literal way, I can't remember scenes where Dean's tense, fighting, or has a facefull of glass. Well, apart from his wreckage of the Impala, but I don't know if that won't clash too much with the torture and the evil in the next lines. On the other hand, it is about John being a total ass, so it fits.
I could also go the "running away from hellhounds" way, what with the following hell theme, but it doesn't fit lyrically - not that I remember, at least.
So yeah, if y'all remember any scenes of Dean being angsty and beaten and tense in a way that fits with the car and the glass, I'd love to hear it. Basically I'm looking for scenes where Dean's life as a hunter wrecked his life as a person, and if this al trails back to John, that's even better.
I don't know if I'm explaining the theme well at all. I have been working on this - very on and off - for over a year now. One of the reasons I'm taking so long is that a) Windows Movie Maker has stopped making short clips of files I import, so if I want a tiny bit off of one episode, I need to put the whole thing into the time line and clip away, and b) Windows Movie Maker is a wimpy thing that responds slowly and freezes up until it's had a good think through. So basically it's slow and frustrating as all fuck.
So this is where you guys can help! Make this process go faster! Look, there's just that verse to do. And another one. And that double-chorus bit. And that repeat-to-fade-out bit. Oh gods...
ETA: I think I've got it figured out - well, one line at least - but I'm still interested in ideas so I'm going to hold off on what I've planned for now.

Love and Monsters. So bad. So wrong. Even with Marc Warren in it, it's still unbelievably cringe-inducing.
The scene where Elton says he and Ursula have "a bit of a love life" was criticised by some commentators, who felt that the resultant implication of having oral sex with a paving slab was unsuitable for Doctor Who's large audience of children; others, however, dismissed this dialogue as a harmless joke that children would not understand.
No! Not harmless! Woman reduced to mouth in pavement at mercy of horny boyfriend! Not good! Bad! Argh!

There's the superficial win of Dean in a white t-shirt of sexyness and Papa Winchester's scruff and hurt Sam's gorgeousness, the not-so-superficial win of the introduction of Tess, with her totally-Sandman's-Death connotations, and the massive win of the plot charging at us and flipping us off our feet.
In contrast, I loathed The Magnificent Seven, which never felt like a season opener to me and in fact I often forget it exists. Also, ew ew ew at the chugging of Bad Thing.

I must admit I never really pay attention to writer's and I don't know enough about directing to be able to take not of it when dne well or poorly. I just flail at the finished product in squee or rage and blame everyone.
That said, my favorite episodes are written by Eric Kripke, John Shiban, Cathryn Humphris, Raelle Ticker, Ben Edlund, Jeremy Carver, with Eric and Jeremy in the lead.
As for directors, I really can't say. I'd need a Supernatural marathon, a notepad, and a ticky-box spreadsheet of directing points.
