Sickle Life: Sunday I went to a free organ (Ansgar Wallenhorst) and piano (Giampaolo Di Rosa) concert at the Sant'Antonio church. They played C. Frank's III Corale in la minore, JSBach's Suite inglese in la minore BWV 807 (♥) and, for the first time ever, Di Rosa's Coloria. Both also did some improvisational pieces. I'll admit I went for the baroque and, as it turns out, do not like seem to like improvisation. (I already knew I didn't like improvisational jazz.) It just frustrates me too much, watching the melody wander around erratically. The Bach pieces, however, were glorious and holy mother of speed, did Di Rosa's hands blur as they flittered over the keys.
Tonight I went to a piano (Alessandro Stella) and flute (Mauro Conti) concert, again with JSBach and also, again for the first time ever, a piece by argentinian Sergio Calligaris, who was present. Once again, my love for Bach was confirmed and enjoyed, while SCalligaris didn't win any space in my heart. MConti, however, was awesomesauce.

Tonight's concert hall, with giant organ!
Fandom Life: Lost finale still pending. I know, I suck. Still, shush about it - I've avoided spoilers so far, and I'd like to keep it that way.
This past weekend I went through a whole slew of notes, printouts and scribbles I'd brought back with me from the Barcelona basement where they'd been stored since 2007. It was my Fanfic Folder. Some of the scribbles were good, some plots were MarySuesque in their drama but had redeeming points, and all were a lovely walk down memory lane. The problem is, of course, that I've now rekindled the flame of the "This Fic is on the chronic back-burner" type into the "Oh gods, oh gods, that'd be awesome to write" flame.
Which is why, in a very roundabout way, I ended up reading the following on wiki:
On May 22, 2010, Fox announced that a prequel to Burton's remake will indeed be made with James Franco attached to the project. This new prequel will be set in the present day and will tell the backstory on how apes became intelligent in the first place. The new movie will use WETA Digital effects to create the apes (similar to the creature effects used on James Cameron's Avatar). Production will begin later this year with a June 24, 2011 release date projected. (

This news both arouses the squee in me and the "I am so disappoint" wave of confused emotion. There is squee because, although
Planet of the Apes (2001) (
Trailer) was abysmal in oh so many ways, for some unexplainable reason, I like it. Even if I can't watch it without ripping it to pieces every second of screentime it has, going on about the whole science fiction world holes and the plot holes. Even then, I like it. Okay, it also riles me up into a fury not just because of the massive story fail, but also because of the lost potential in so many parts. Character development, for one thing. (Oh hai, fanfic WIP since 2001!)
So I'm glad to see that this thing I liked is having a prequel. That's nice. Even if I'm not holding out for it being any good.
I am, however, disappointed because it's completely not dealing with anything I wanted the 2001 film to deal with. It's a prequel. Not only that, it's not even a proper prequel, but rather a remake of the original series' prequel, or something. Anyway, it has nothing to do with the 2001 film or its characters. So I am disappointed. Tim Roth, I lay this whole mess of confusion and disillusionment at your feet. You and your slightly, teasingly three-dimensional character. And that pathetic last scene. (Oh, my heart.)
Speaking of the "write now, this is idea is awesome!" flame, I need to seriously buckle down and write. And not just because if I don't finish The Balloonist's Wife and Real Heroes Give Up I might scream (although I am really, really ready to get those suckers down on paper). Oh no. It's because I keep getting images post-Time for Something Biblical. The latest, for example, features Agatha and a gun. (Not, of course, shooting it, but with it nonetheless.) How can I not write that? With no time, that's how. Argh.

sharing of Kimi ga Oshietekureta Koto - "my second favourite japanese drama ever. it's about a young autistic woman, mayuko, who has a penchant for weather forecasting and a fondness for shiny things, and a former psychiatrist suffering PTSD after the rather traumatic death of a girlfriend, shinichi. [...] it's a remarkably beautiful and wonderful and lovely drama. i mean. look. it portrays autism better than 99% of all media, the soundtrack is FUCKMAZING, rie tomosaka's acting is impeccable and adorable, and, and, it's pretty. and well-plotted. and interesting."
