What occasional meetings they have are unplanned. On some Tuesday, one might pass another on the trail, and the only acknowledgment shared are slight tilts of the head, or a raise of the eyebrow. They might not see each other again until Saturday, when Belphegor tries to provoke Sasuke into an amusing response. Sunday might find Sasuke sharing a pithy comment about a fellow camper, and Belphegor could surprise him by agreeing.

There's no commitment in their conversations. It's an effortless acquaintanceship, something Sasuke hasn't experienced in a decade. It drags neither of them down into the murky levels of emotion and feelings.
