What a Trip

It's been a whirlwind so far but so satisfying. Unlike most trips, on this one I don't have any schoolwork or strict obligations, so I've had some "flex" time. Coming into town I ate with my sister and her roommate Liz at Blue Iguana (just as good or better than Red, locals!) and I enjoyed my delicious mole (enchiladas poblanas). My sister discovered a new dessert, the Xango, and we're all in love - it's a piece of cheesecake (I think without crust, the lame part after all) wrapped in a flour tortilla and then fried somehow to be brown and crisp, dusted in cinnamon-sugar. Yum.

After that, we met with one of her guy friends and met up back at her house. I was kind of veg'ing out on her couch and booted up my PC. Also met up with Jonathan kleme before I ended up doing below. I had a nice slice of key lime pie and some ice water. The Coffee Garden was great as always - Ninth and Ninth has a great facelift and is probably the *new* Sugar House, now that the old counterculture neighborhood is being destroyed beyond repair. *sigh*

Talked online to some friends, including pulsecub and Loverboybearcub. I started to phase out though, and ended up going to sleep on her couch. I got a little warm and dried out during the night but was mostly awoken by noisy trucks on 1300 East.

This morning I was just hanging out early on but then my friend Jen (no LJ, but on FaceBook) called me and we set up meeting to spend some time together. We went to Coffee Garden (YAY) and I had a good coconut and I think raspberry scone with a decaffeinated British breakfast tea. We went from there to Harmon's and reminisced there about our times in the store and she talked about missing the quality produce and prices. I was floored at how Boars Head is still $3/pound below what it is at QFC in Seattle (see, Seattle's expensive...).

We then went from there back toward campus and stopped in our old stomping grounds. That was really nice. I got to see the nursing school's space at the new health and wellness center, Payne Gym's changes, Converse Hall (and posters about its history) and the new admissions office inside, the new school of education offices and the new athletic field. I miss that place. The smell of Converse just brought back so many good memories.

We drove back to my sister's intending to go our separate ways but my dad was walking the new dog up the drive so we started talking. Jen came in with us and saw the house and my parents invited her along for lunch. We went to good old Big City Soup where I also tried the new Big City Pizzeria. I enjoyed my soup, roll, and pizza slice. I ate it all, I guess I was hungry.

Finally, we checked into our hotel, the University Guest House, and I bid goodbye to Jennifer. It took us a little time, but I was finally able to take a shower and catch up with pulsecub.

I am so glad I got to meet Pete in person. I really wish I would've known about him when I lived here. He is friendly, cute, and smart. :-) It was a good meeting and he paid for my tea and Banbury Cross cinnamon roll (thanks Pete). Definitely the highlight of the trip so far although I forgot to ask about his new p.a. LOL!

Conclusion: I really miss going out to coffee shops with good friends. This has been a good weekend. I do miss parts of Utah and hope to rekindle similar things in Seattle. I guess these things just take time.
