In our journey, we had a lot of time to talk (or listen, as the case may be - have you ever travelled with Sir Vitus?).
Katherine of Great Chesterford is a returnee to the Society with her lord Ozbeg, and she's now fired with enthusiasm to fight. Her advance over this past year has been terrific, and I think she did Vitus proud as his fighter at Coronet. And so guess what we talked about?
Actually we talked about a lot of things, including Double Wars. Robert and I haven't been in several years, and nor has goncalves. We talked abou the friends, the tourneys, the classes, and the melees, all much missed. And from word on LJ and around, it sounds like it's high time for a return.
So on this trip, we formed a PLN: to return to Double Wars this coming year (a 'late' DW, following a late Easter) and make up part of the armed forces of Insulae Draconis.
Sir Vitus is planning to attend, driving/ferrying via Germany, to pick up Meisterin Eleanora, with the Vitus-wagn and trailer. This means that he, Robert and I, and
goncalves, can pack our kit in the vehicle, and we can find flights to Attemark. We'll be able to bring our luxury housing, our decadent bedding and swanky kit, and make a place for our friends to visit us.
With my brain turned to fencing, and authorising, my part of the PLN is to return to Attemark authorised in a new martial art, and possibly even cut-and-thrust. If I don't make it as far as C&T there will still be lots of folks to play with in Nordmark.
My part of the PLN:
This year I'm feeling acutely aware of my age. I'm aware my dad had his first heart attack in his forties. In some ways I'm worlds away from Dad's health picture (I'm a non-smoker, moderate drinker, moderate eater, light exerciser). But heart problems run throughout our family tree, on both sides.
And I've been following
kes_zone and
larmer 's progress on their training programs, and their amazing results. A big part of their programs is being active on non-training days - basically incorporating activity every day.
AND... I saw
da_dotty at the fittest and most fearsome I've ever seen her on the field, at Coronet. And I know she's been working on her training for years, so she's earned it.
So that's what I want to do: something active every day, between now and Double Wars. I want to pick up my running from 3 days a week to 4 (adding a long slow run on weekends), and on non-running days, I want to do something: walk to work, or a yoga session, or a swim, or possibly even fencing training.
I want to attend Double Wars fit - as fit as I can get in a sustainable way, without sacrificing work, crafts or sanity.
I've always found the fall the time for resolutions and fresh starts, far more than New Year. I think it's a leftover from schooldays.
So I'm feeling resolved, to try this out until early summer next year, and see how I feel.
As an incentive: we've discovered a spa within walking distance. It includes a sauna (internal drool), with a reasonable fee for use of the thermal facilities (£21.50/session for non-members). We may be testing it out, to see how we feel after fight practices...
