I’ve just written some utter tripe, but I had to get it out of my head. I’m seeing it as a comic, but do what you will with it. Turn it into poetry, or prose, or a page of a comic, or write a song about it, or print it and wipe your booty with it, or do an oil painting, or whatever you want.

I like Emily's idea of the waiting for godot thing... I would suggest having them shoot each other's bullets, as in the original, and then shoot again...
only this time, don't have it wing them. Have it be identical, and fatal, wounds. Then play out the rest of the conversation as they both sit there, bleeding to death.

No real need for a third person, or for any explanation.

That's how I'd do it.
