Interning can be FUN!

So, here's tonight's bril gem from my intern work at DrMaster:

"You're a pretty good shot for a pacifist," Louis said.
"I forgot to say before. I'm a pacifist, but I'm also an 'eye-for-an-eye'-ist and a perfect shot."-- JUNK FORCE: THE NOVEL, v.2, Hideki Kakinuma ( Read more... )

I found you on chambana... I, too, enjoy your entries (and your icon). I laughed out loud (at work) at your retelling of the Devil Pot story. from the sounds of it, that house is not far off from many of the chambana rentals I've lived in over the years. That Herschel landlord sounds eerily similar to one I had years ago, Gerald Marshall.

Anyhow, I notice you are into manga and stuff. I'm a japanese language student in my spare time. Do you speak/read/write any nihongo? Just curious.

Hope you don't mind if I add you, as I would enjoy reading the occasional benchiladaism on my friends page... Feel free to reciprocate, not that my journal is anything interesting. More interesting is perhaps my music:

http://www.psr47.com (but torrents are down, but loads of free ambient/spacey/drone mp3s)

One of my friends sent me that site once, but it vanished into the ether when my hard drive died and I was unable to recover my favorites...love the music.

Don't speak Japanese yet, but will likely be taking classes in it this Fall. :D

Big fan of S.E. Asian culture in general...
And I'm glad you enjoyed the Devil Pot story (which was nonfiction)...hopefully there'll be more fiction soon...

i noticed you're involved in editing some kind of Manga? and taking classes eh? i am in fact an incoming grad student in teh East Asian Languages and Cultures department in Japanese (though my language skillz have rusted to an embarrassing point)

you're getting a lot of people randomly chekcing out your journal!

That kicks an incredible amount of ass! My interest in SE Asia in general has been with me since I was but a seahorse-shaped foetus floating about inside my mother, who proably hadn't planned for me, no matter what she says now ( ... )

i do indeed know Dr. Desser. he's quite a character. last time i visited there (i've been twice) i saw him speak about Asian Cinema (Korean mostly) have you read his book on Japanese New Wave? (Eros Plus Massacre)

i've been building up an enviable Japanese (and other) DVD collection with the assistance of a certain bucaneer friend of mine.

as i said, my Japanese is rusty, but i might be able to help. i notice, for example, that the movie listed as "Armour of God" is actually "Dragon Elder Brother, Tiger Younger Brother" in the Chinese.

Bah, did I leave that out?!

And to think, I actually knew that...

Mind, I learned a bit of Mandarin about 7 years ago...never got to more.

When I spoke to a friend of mine from Hong Kong about learning Cantonese, he laughed and called me an idiot. "Why you want to learn the hardest language?" he asked, "No, no, you want Mandarin, even it hard!"

i know very little about Chinese, but of course recognize the characters pretty well. i'm hoping to begin Chinese classes this Fall though.

i took a look at that place you're working at; it got me to thinking; i'll be needing something to do next summer in between the end of the Spring semester and the Fall (when i go to Japan for an intensive language program) maybe they have more room for hired slaves?

Yeah, they probably do.
Maybe ask after August 9th, when my internship is up, so they don't just grab you and tell me, "NO JOBS AVAILABLE, MU-HU-HA-HA!"
:D

you're now officially my connection into the seedy publishing industry. so i won't stab you in the back until i have wrung the maximum benefit i can from you...

summers in EALC are lean; there's like, 2 assistantships or such. so most have to find something else to do, and i've got a very early eye out for worthwhile opportunities.

Ah, and I've checked out Desser's EPM, but haven't read it.

I read too much.
