1) Because the default in humans is not smoking. Smoking is the choice, not not smoking. I was speaking for myself there (ie, I don't want to be the patron at the bar next to you while you smoke), but the larger picture would be that I don't want to the the waitress who HAS to serve you and stand within feet of you while you smoke. Which brings us to...

2) True, people work in coal mines. There is no way that I can see of having a coal mine without coal. There is a way to have a bar or restaurant without smoking. In fact, it's very easy :) To your second point there, it's true that I can't point to any one specific person I personally know who can only work at a bar and say "there's your proof!" But I do know that for many people, working in a bar or restaurant is often one of the few jobs available to them (due to lack of education, being illegal, not speaking English, etc). That, and the fact that if you work at a bar and become pregnant, what are you supposed to do? Quit, and find another job while you are visabily pregnant? I just think that no one should have to sit around in smoke for eight hours a day. Anyone who wants to can do so, in the privacy of their own home, own boat, own back yard, or in some state where it is still legal.
