I've been taking a supermultivitamin every day for the past... hell, I forget. At least seven years, maybe more. Haven't gotten sick since.

YAY! And they're saying that taking C supplements help reduce the absorbtion of fat into the system.

With a nice vodka chaser always works for me. I love being healthy.

I figure whiskey speeds them into my system, yeah?

I work for a vitamin company. I can tell you anything you want to know. :-)

The cool thing about the B vitamins (and vitamin C) is that they both help other vitamins work better, in addition to having lots of cool benefits on their own.

Are you taking tablets or capsules? If you're taking tablets, they can cause upset stomach if not taken with food, and can also pass unabsorbed, depending on how well they're made. Taking them with food will help.

And your pee will turn all sorts of delightful and entertaining colors - this is normal. Your body takes what it needs and passes the rest, for most types of vitamins. (Those extra amounts are necessary, though, to make sure that you absorb everything you do need.)

Other good ones to add to the regimen include Omega-3s and CoQ10.

eating fish once a week will take care of the omega-3s.

i'm taking chewables cuzz i got a gag reflex of a midwest pentacostal foofy boy.

some vitamins and minerals need the right amount of critic acid and fat to be soluable. for instance, i make sure my daughter gets some oj to absorb iron.

caffeine and carbonated drinks don't help with any vitamin absorption, afaik.

I second the OJ for iron absorption... but not all vitamins appreciate citric acid. Grapefruit is notoriously sucky for reducing absorption of certain meds.

If you'd like I can pull out my school books for further details regarding vitamins/meds/absorption. I did do that whole Allied Health thing...

And hell, I don't want to mess with critic acid.

Indeed, I've been taking them with food and water.
I'd heard about the citrus thing, pespeciarly grapefruits.

Ever since I started taking a multivitamin last march or so, the incidence of my migraines has dropped. For a long time there I still got bad headaches, but they were just tension headaches and not the no-OTC-can-touch-this migraine type. The other day I realized I haven't even had one of the tension ehadaches in quite a while.

As a side benefit of this, my fingernails grow a lot faster than they used to, and my stylist asked me if I was using any new products because he sais my hair looked a little bit thicker. :)

Right now I take a multivitamin made for women withe xtra iron and calcium, 1 or 2 calcium supplements depending on my intake of calcium that day, 1 fish-oil capsule*, 2 fiber pills (because I never get anywhere enar enough of that), and the Strattera. I'm annoyed at the range of pills, and although extra C might help, I'm rather resistant to the idea of taking yet another pill ( ... )

I think I'm going to focus on fish rather than fish oil, as my lady is not a fan of fish, and fish oil can make you...fishy.

...

If that makes sense.

In any event, I hope these vitamins help with my headaches...

The stuff I'm taking is supposed to be coated in such a way as to eliminate or minimize the fishiness side effects. :) I really ought to be taking 3 or more to get the dose at which the ADD study saw results, but I don't trust the treatment to really work at that level. I've bookmarked this list about seafood with omega-3 acids in it and am trying to eat more, in addition.

Good luck with the migraines! I know that some of mine are triggered by low blood sugar and lack of sleep, and others seem to be hormonal in nature, but I think a bunch must have been triggered by lousy nutrition or something. Or at least not prevented by nutrients.

Check your multivitamins to make sure that you're not getting insane amounts of anything. I've seen things that have 1500% of the USRDA. Too much of a vitamin can be as bad or worse than too little.
