for anyone has 600 bucks to spare, and wants a fantastic music system, this is my most exciting bargin put together yet. everything listed would be bought new, and have a 30 day money back deal, from a big brick and morter store (although it would be shipped to you)
for less than what i payed, this would do everything my system does, just not as loud, but who cares (mine can go louder than i will ever be able to play it in a rental appartment, who needs that)
good sound, for as little as i could muster new:
Wharfedale diamond 8.1 107$ pair
http://www.audioadvisor.com/store/productdetail.asp?sku=WHARFD8.1B Cambridge audio 540A Integrated and 540C cdp ~ 250$ each 500$ combined
http://www.audioadvisor.com/store/productdetail.asp?sku=CAMB540AShttp://www.audioadvisor.com/store/productdetail.asp?sku=DMCAMB540C shipping is free, and interconnects/cables either diy (canare 4s11 bulk feet, and canare RCA's with cat5 cables) or from company like blue jeans should run no more than 50$
alternatives for speakers are floor standers
wharfedale diamond 8.3 170$ (more bass extension)
http://www.audioadvisor.com/store/productdetail.asp?sku=WHARFD8.3B total price, about 650-720$
heck add the hsu vtf1 (www.hsuresearch.com) for 300 and your in under 1000, and its a bona-fide giant killer.
for anyone without that kind of cash, but who still loves music, the number one ipod upgrade i know of are the grado sr-60 headphones, 69$ made in brooklyn by a family who has made audio stuff by hand for 60 years. these have one every freaking award immaginable. (be ware, they are open ear, meaning everyone else can here them) another alternative is the Super T-amp www.si5.com and a pair of those monitors, that would sound great with an ipod or your existing CD player/DVD player.
ok so time to study finance
