Well, later today, i'll be signing the lease on my new apartment and subsequently giving away all my money to this guy i barely know. I'll call him my landlord. But, happily, what all that buys me is something i'm very happy about--a tiny little piece of something i can call my own here in this town. It's hard to believe, really, that i've been here almost a year without having ever signed a lease or anything like that. Finally i'll have an honest address... And a MAILBOX! ...and a living room i can lounge in without angry looking dominicans. Haha...if you can't tell, i'm pretty excited.

However, i did do something yesterday that i've been avoiding ever since i moved here... I made 'the call.' It went a little something like this:

- Hello?
- Hey dad.
- OH, hey. What's going on?
- Nothin' much.
- What's up? what do you need?
- Oh, i was just callin' to update y'all on everything. Is this a bad time?
- No, its good.
- Ok, cool.
- Well, i just wanted to let y'all know that me and jason are going thursday to sign the lease and everything.
- Oh great! That's great.
- Yeah, we're pretty excited. [blah blah...more details about the apartment, etc.] I did want to ask you though... When we go to sign the lease, we have to give him 2 1/2 months rent. (first month + 1.5 mo. security deposit). We're close, but since i don't get paid again until next friday, we're a little short. I was gonna see if you'd be able to help. I should be able to pay you back as soon as i get my next check.
- Yeah, we should be able to do that.
...
(blah blah blah...cont'd, cont'd)

But, there you go. I did it. I didn't really want to. But, i guess i had to...either that or go into debt (you know, real debt....not just to your dad) and i didn't want to do that. And, the truth is, i'm pretty sure he's happy to help. It makes him feel like he's a part of keeping me on my feet, i think.
