Title: Invader Ben
Chapter: 6/?
Author: GraviTiger
Series: Ben 10: Alien Force/Invader Zim
Pairings: BeVin and a smidge of ZaDr
Dib and Kevin sat on the horrifying pink couch in Zim’s living room after being basically thrown out of the lab by Zyphoid. Both of them attempted to ignore the worried silence by focusing on the horrifying monkey that GIR had on the screen. Every so often the monkey’s eye would twitch a little and the tiny insane robot would flip out, roll on the floor, then climb back on the couch, and once again remind them that he loved this show.
This routine got old after the 20th time and Kevin got up to go sit in the kitchen to raid the Irken Invader’s fridge, picked up a tiny Irken soda, and sat down at the kitchen table.
Dib joined him a few minutes later.
“So that SIR unit always that messed up?” Kevin asked as continued to sip at his tiny soda.
“Yup,” Dib said in an almost monotone voice as he stared off into space.
They sat in that silence for a few minutes, before Dib spoke up again.
“What if Zim’s friend can’t fix them?” he asked.
“Don’t even start thinking like that man,” Kevin replied as he sent a warning glare at the paranormal investigator.
“I’m serious though, I mean what if they don’t,” Dib said as a saddened expression filled his face.
“I said drop it man, the last thing I want to think about is Ben dying,” Kevin said as he turned his glare on full force.
“Why don’t you want to talk about it, I mean he could die, and he’s your friend,” Dib replied with a glare of his own.
“Why do YOU want to talk about it so much?! I mean isn’t Zim your arch enemy?! Why would you care so much if he died?!” Kevin yelled as he slammed his fist down on the wobbly kitchen table.
Dib gaped at him for a few seconds, before turning his head away, unable to respond.
Kevin stared at him for a few seconds before realization dawned on his face, “You’re in love with him.”
“You should talk, you’re in love with your best friend,” Dib snapped at him.
“SO WHAT IF I AM?!” Kevin yelled back, before he realized what he said and slumped against the chair with his arms crossed.
After a few minutes of awkward silence Dib spoke, “Zim doesn’t know, and I don’t plan on telling him, Irkens aren’t really the most loving species and I’d be happier fighting him then dealing with his reaction.”
Kevin stared at him for a second, took a sip of his soda, and then responded, “Benji doesn’t know either, he thinks I’m dating his cousin.”
Dib looked at him with a confused look on his face, “Why would he think that?”
Kevin shrugged, “Gwen’s a little clingy. He probably jumped to the conclusion after she forced me to take her to her school dance, despite the fact that she only went with me because I was available.”
“Doesn’t he see the way you look at him? I mean it’s obvious that you like him,” Dib said as he took a seat at the table.
“I don’t know, Ben is pretty oblivious to things sometimes. I mean at least in your case Zim doesn’t understand human emotions, or else he would totally know you‘re into him,” Kevin stated as he leaned his chair back and put his feet on the tiny kitchen table.
Dib laughed, “ You’d be surprised, Zim can be pretty oblivious sometimes too. I mean he’s been around humans for five years, I think he might understand some basic earth emotions.”
Kevin shrugged, “You never know with different species, man.”
“If you two are doing with your insipid earth gossiping, I’d be pleased to tell you that Zim and Benjamin are going to be fine,” Zyphoid stated from his position near the lab entrance that was usually hidden by the fridge.
Both Dib and Kevin jumped out of their skins, as neither had heard the blue-eyed Irken enter, and looked over to stare at him.
“They’re both going to be okay?” Dib asked.
Zyphoid gave an exasperated sigh, “That’s what I just said. Now would you like to see them?”
Dib and Kevin nodded and silently got up to follow Zyphoid over to the hidden lift behind the fridge. The humans seemed tense as they entered.
Zyphoid stared at them and gave an eye roll, “Yes I heard most of your conversation, and no I won’t tell them; even though you should.”
Both humans breathed a sigh of relief before the last part of what Zyphoid said set in.
“Why should we tell them?” Kevin asked as stared at the extremely blunt Irken.
“Because, they obviously return your affections,” Zyphoid replied as if it was the most obvious fact in the world.
“How would you know anything of human emotions?” Dib asked as he sized up the blue eyed Irken in front of him for the first time.
Zyphoid simply grinned, “A lot more than you think. Irkens actually do love and understand emotions other than destruction and hate. Most of us put out that unbeatable front because it is what is expected of us by the Tallest.”
Dib seemed to ponder this new information for a few seconds, “So you mean Zim is capable of loving?”
Before Zyphoid could respond, the computer announced that they had arrived at the lab.
