“Ben, this is ridiculous!” Gwen protested as her cousin handed her the key to the second room.
“Gwen, I’m not letting you spend the night in the same room with Kevin if that woman’s pheromones turned him into a potential pervert,” Ben hissed, leaning against the wall between the two rooms.
‘You have no idea,’ the redhead thought. ‘I’m not the one who needs to be watching themselves around him right now!’
“At least stay with me,” she wheedled. “I’d feel better.”
A shake of the head. “We need to be sure he doesn’t hurt himself or try calling up anyone.”
“You can’t really stop him right now,” she said, pointing down at the foot he was favoring.
Ben winced, lifting his right foot to rub at his newly-wrapped ankle. “It’ll be fine. Besides, I can always go alien and smoke him if worse comes to worst.”
She didn’t like how he was trying to be flippant about the injury. Especially since he knew that the Omnitrix’s inability to protect his human self from his aliens’ injuries scared her witless. There were a few features on the watch she would’ve gladly returned if it could’ve gotten that ability back.
“Get some sleep, okay? I promise not to hurt Kevin. Or let him hurt me.” He held up two fingers. “Scout’s honor.”
“You were never in Scouts.” Her lips twitched.
“Well, pinky-promise then.” He lowered his fingers and stuck out his pinky instead.
Hesitantly, she reached out her own pinky and hooked it on his. “Be careful. I’ll be right through the wall if you need anything.”
“You got it. And you’ve got my spare key just in case I need backup?”
She nodded and held it up.
“Great.” He gave her a kiss on the cheek. “See ya in the morning.”
“Good night, Ben.”
Things were uneventful for the first three hours. Which was good. Ben was exhausted and needed sleep. Just beyond dreamland, he could hear Kevin moving restlessly on his own bed. However, there was nothing indicating real trouble.
But at some point, he started to feel someone watching him. Groaning, he opened his eyes to see the older teenager standing there, gazing down at him.
“Wha’s wrong?” he slurred as he tried to shrug off sleep. “Wha’s a matter?”
The black-haired teen sat down on the edge of the bed just by his legs. “You know you look all tense when you sleep?”
Ben reached up to rub an eye. “No, I can’t usually watch myself.”
“It’s weird,” Kevin muttered, as if not hearing him. “It’s like you’re worrying about what we need to do next even while you’re dreaming.”
The brunette raised an eyebrow at the other teen. “Um…okay. That’s…uh…”
There was a wolfish glint in the black-haired teen’s eye as he leaned forward over the younger boy. “Maybe I should help you learn to relax, huh?”
“Kevin, what’re you-!”
Ben was cut off as the older teen smashed their lips together. Something slimy-‘His tongue?!’-slithered into his mouth and practically down his throat. It almost made him choke.
As girly as it sounded, he’d always imagined his first kiss would be less…forceful.
He managed to shove Kevin off him, some of their mixed spit splattering onto his chin. “Kevin, you’re not-!”
Again, the mouth came down, this time banging their teeth together in a way that hurt something awful. He was shocked to discover that the larger teen had managed to pin his arms at his sides while he was distracted by the bone-jarring assault on his mouth.
It would’ve been a lie to have said that he hadn’t wanted this in some way, shape, or form. There had always been some small part of himself that had glanced over at Kevin with interest. He would’ve been blind not to see how good-looking the guy was. Still, he’d long ago decided that if anything were to happen between them, he definitely didn’t want it to happen like this.
He tried getting his feet under himself to try and buck the larger teen off. He only succeeded in getting his foot to yelp in pain, causing him to echo that cry directly into Kevin’s mouth.
Which only seemed to encourage the teen atop him. Correct that: the teen astride him. Ben’s mind now went into all-out panic mode.
‘Sorry, Kevin, but you’re just not yourself.’
He jerked his left knee up, hoping to hit something the black-haired teen would care about. There was a grunt of annoyance but nothing else for several seconds. Just more of that invasive tongue and…dear God, was Kevin grinding against him?!
The older boy pulled away for a moment to get his breath back. Ben gasped like a fish that had suddenly found itself on dry land.
Meanwhile, his captor touched their foreheads together and purred, “Just relax, Ben. I’ll make it good for you. Promise.”
“Get off of me!” Ben yelled, struggling.
The Omnitrix shrieked, flashing brightly. That drew Kevin’s surprised attention as a ball of green energy formed over the watch’s face. A split second later, the larger teen found himself on the other side of the room as the Omnitrix released that gathered energy, slamming Kevin into the opposite wall.
Ben struggled to sit up, wincing as his foot whined in protest to any sort of movement. He huddled into a ball close to the headboard to make himself as small of a target as possible. All the while, the Omnitrix continued shrieking and flashing as if warning Kevin to stay back or else.
Gwen threw open their door a few seconds later, staring in stupefied amazement at a dazed Kevin and a shaking Ben. “What happened?!”
“Kevin jumped me,” the brunette explained. “I think the leftovers from the pheromones made him pretty desperate.”
She snorted, closing the door behind herself as she entered, stepping over the stunned boy’s outstretched legs as she approached Ben. “How’d he get all the way over here?”
“The Omnitrix shoved him off. He had me pretty pinned.”
She took in the sight of the Omnitrix, less vocal now but still flashing and giving off a slightly-ominous beeping. “Talk about a watchdog.”
“Har har, Gwen.”
She sat down next to him, using her powers to deposit Kevin in his own bed and hold him there even as he started coming to. She wrapped her arms around her cousin. “You okay?”
Ben gave a shaky laugh. “Gonna be up for a while but not bad. Sorry to wake you up.”
“No big deal. I’ll just ride out the rest of the night right here.”
And while Gwen caught a few Z’s, Ben couldn’t close his eyes for the rest of the night.
Kevin glanced into the backseat using the rearview mirror. “I think he’s drooling on the seatbelt.”
Gwen reached out and punched him in the shoulder. “Cut him some slack, Kevin. He was up all night.”
“Why?”
“Well, he was afraid you were gonna jump me.” She smirked as the older teen rolled his eyes. “Or that you’d jump him again.”
That nearly sent him off the road. “I did what?”
“You jumped him last night. Apparently, you had him so nicely pinned and freaked him out so badly that the Omnitrix decided to send you flying.”
Now Kevin pulled over, shutting off the engine and putting his forehead against the top of the steering wheel. “I can’t believe this.” He lifted his head a little and glanced over towards the only female member of their group. “How nice do you think Siberia is this time of year?”
She reached out to flick his ear. “Fortunately for you, Ben’s chalked it up to just frustration thanks to those pheromones. He thinks that because you couldn’t get at a girl, you went for the closest thing available.”
The larger teen breathed a sigh of relief.
“And you’re lucky that you have those pheromones as an excuse for last night, or you’d be in serious trouble right now.” Gwen’s eyes started glowing. “You really scared him last night.”
The black-haired teen winced. “Look, it wasn’t my fault, all right? I don’t even remember doing it.”
The redhead calmed. “I know. Just don’t give him any trouble about this, okay?”
“You got it.”
There was movement in the backseat, and Kevin glanced into the rearview mirror to see Ben start to stir.
The groggy teen looked out the window. “Why’d we stop?”
“Just needed a quick break. We’re goin’ now. Go back to sleep.”
Ordinarily, Ben would’ve pressed for more details, but Kevin was relieved when the other boy put his head back down and muttered, “’Kay.”
Starting the Camaro back up, Kevin looked over his shoulder and back at Ben one more time, wincing as he saw the wrapped ankle. However, he said nothing as he turned back around and pulled back onto the road.
He had a lot of making up to do.
