Kageki Shojo! and Wonder Egg Priority

Neither of these was particularly long, so I was able to get through them quickly. Kageki Shojo! is actually ongoing, so there are only six episodes, which I didn't realize when I started. (^^)" However, based on those six episodes I'd say it's very promising! I enjoyed all of them and I'm now reading the manga, which is also enjoyable so far. Only two volumes are available in the U.S. currently, but it looks like there were some fan scanlations for a little while.

The basic premise of this series is a simple one: it follows several girls as they try to become top Kouka performers, which is an all female acting school if I'm understanding correctly. It deals with a lot of the issues women and actresses face, so there is a content warning for things such as harassment, food disorders, and general difficulties in life.

I really like our two main characters, Sarasa and Ai. They have such differing personalities, so it's particularly fun to watch them steadily become friends. Ai was very reluctant for that to happen, but Sarasa won her over in the end! I'm a little unclear on whether or not this series is girl's love or not, but it could very easily be read as such.

So, that anime was a definite win. Now for Wonder Egg Priority. I have a lot more mixed feelings on Wonder Egg Priority. (^^)" It's a horror series that explores a group of girls who are trying to bring back individual friends who committed suicide. They do this by essentially putting the spirits of other girls who have committed suicide to rest. Except it's not a paranormal show; it has a scientific explanation of sorts, only the scientific explanation comes near the end and isn't properly explained, so I'm not sure it helped the show all that much? It also ended on a massive cliffhanger and there aren't plans for a season two, so...

Honestly, the main issue with this show is that it enjoys being too vague. There were so many things I was unsure about throughout the show and there were 1.5 episodes of recap, which did not help when it was only 13 episodes long to begin with. It's honestly very frustrating because certain elements of the show were very good, but they're consistently hindered by the above.

If you want to check that one out, a big warning for all kinds of difficult subject matter not least of which is suicide as already mentioned, but also a lot of harassment and gender dysphoria, I think. That was one of the elements of the show that was portrayed somewhat confusingly.

Anyway, I'm enjoying delving into some newer anime; I've stuck with the ones I've already been familiar with for a while, so it's neat to see what else has been coming out. Not sure what I'll check out next, but there are certainly some options!
