I knew Anders would be different in Awakening compared to how he was in DA2 (I did them out of order) but I find it interesting to see just what is different and how much still seems very much the same. Of course, seeing how Justice behaves gives some insight into many of Anders’s changes in DA2 as well.
So, here are just a few things I’ve found interesting so far.
For one, Anders is amazingly easy to win over in Awakening. Granted, everyone’s approval seems to go up at a steeper rate than in Origins proper but it’s interesting nonetheless. Also, the fact that Anders’s says “Love” rather than “Friendly.” I haven’t gotten anyone else high enough to see if there’s would also say that (I’d be a little afraid to see Oghren’s say “Love”) but this is interesting-a one-sided love for the Warden? Definitely some story ideas there. I wish he had commented on the Warden more in DA2.
And then Justice. I can really see how he affected Anders later on. He has quite a bit of drive where Anders lacks and tends to see things in black and white and is still working through mortal viewpoints. The exchange about Ser Pounce-a-lot was amusing but telling. Anders definitely bore quite a bit of resentment toward the templars even in this game, so his anger in DA2, amplified by Justice’s sense of righteousness, explains many of his actions.
To be honest, Justice seems a lot like Nathaniel. I’ve noticed that the two of them usually give me the exact same approval rating when I do something “just” and Nathaniel seems like he would have been the one willing to share a body with Justice rather than Anders. I find Nathaniel’s input on the matter (“For life. For love. Perhaps together, you can do what they cannot do alone. If you gave instead of taking, I would consider you no demon.”) somewhat odd. I assume Nathaniel is giving reasons for why he would be willing to do this for Justice but it seems like a rather strong statement so early on and, at least where I’m at so far, it hasn’t been expanded on.
And then as an aside, I am failing at winning Oghren over. I was actually doing really well in Origins. Shame this didn’t carry over into Awakening. XD
