End of semester/winter blues

Ah winter, how I loathe thee.

It's cold, I'm exhausted, and I have the flu. How fun.

My first uni exam (German) for this semester is comin up on friday, and I have to travel all the way to the Valley for it. Sigh. An hour on the train plus 30 minutes on the bus. I'm not very confident about it either, but I have a week to study, so who knows.

I just finished reading Ariel by Sylvia Plath, which is basically a book of poetry that Plath wrote just prior to her death. I love how they included her original typed pages and scribbles, where she crossed out words she didn't like or titles. Some of the poems seem a bit depressing  or even morbid, but most of them are awesome. Most people seem to discover her in their teen years but I haven't really gotten over my facination with her poetry, and I hope I never do.

From 'The Moon and the Yew Tree'

This is the light of the mind, cold and planetary.
The trees of the mind are black. The light is blue.
The grasses unload their griefs on my feet as if I were God,
Prickling my ankles and murmuring of their humility.
Fumey, spiritous mists inhabit this place
Separated from my house by a row of headstones.
I simply cannot see where there is to get in.

Sigh.

I went and bought PS I love you on dvd, since I loved the book and loved the movie when I saw it back in January, but I had forgotten just how much it made me cry. I'm now one of those women that tears up at sad movies and people make fun of. And I used to be one of the people making the fun! Heh. Laura would enjoy the irony.
