I had a pretty awesome laid-back day today. Shauno (my brother) came home from work at 11 and decided he wanted a midday surf, and I wanted to go get tan and have a bit of a swim myself. So we hopped in the ute and went over to Woorim (the surf beach) for a couple of hours. The tide was going out, the water was this brilliant blue-green colour, it was heaps hot, and there were decent sized waves. Shaun hates surfing where people are so we walked about a k down the beach closer to where the four-wheel drive track exits on to the beach and threw our towels down. I wish I had brought my camera with me. I climbed up on to a dune that was pretty high up, and where some people had obviously had a campfire pretty recently, and the view up there was amazing. I could see way down the beach to where the first lagoon was, and I could also make out the huge sand dunes on Moreton island, another island across from Bribie out in Moreton Bay. Next stop from that point would probably be... what, South America? I'm not sure if there are any Pacific Islands out there in line with us. So anyway I just sat there for a while taking in the view and playing the beach mix I have on my ipod - you know, Jack Johnson, Pete Murray, The Beautiful Girls, The John Butler trio, that kind of laid-back music that really gets you in the beaching kind of mood. The water was so clear, and I could see loads of fish. I saw a stripey one and for a split second thought "Tiger Shark." After I got tired of that, I went back down to the ocean and tried to swim, but the waves were a bit too rough. I kept getting knocked off my feet. It was wonderfully refreshing though, and I got tired pretty quickly.
The only thing I don't like about going to the part of the beach where the majority of the people go is the old men in their tight speedos - which, here in Australia, we've lovingly (read: disgustingly, trying to hold back our lunch) nicknamed Dick Togs. It's gross, and I'm pretty sure there should be some law against it. Seriously, I should be blind right now. Don't old men have shame?
I also got a bit sunburnt, but hey, it'll fade to tan. After about 2 or 3 hours of that, Shaun and I went home, and we were both knackered. Ive only just woken up from a nice afternoon kip. Ahh, the life of a beach bum. *grin*
