talekyn issued me the following lj interests to explain. It's late but I'll do my best.
All About Eve
One of the most well written films ever. Bette Davis is career defining as Margo Channing. Marilyn Monroe makes a small early career cameo. What more can one ask for. Bitchin' shit!
Casey Stratton
When I got the new release book from Sony back in 2004, I thought Casey's "Standing at the Edge" album sounded interesting so I ordered a couple copies for the store. When it was released that January I was an immediate fan. Little did I know that he was originally from here, that I would run into him in town a few months later, or that we would become inseparable best friends. I suppose it's rather odd to list someone that you've come to know like the back of your hand as an "interest", but I still think he is one of the best musicians, singers, and songwriters working today. I am very proud of him and I love him very much. So why the fuck not!
Chicago
Chicago was the first "American" city I lived in after leaving Cuba and in many ways I still consider it my hometown. I can still remember stepping foot off the plane in November and not having a coat as we were fluing in from Puerto Rico. I can still remember the joy of seeing snow for the first time. We were living with my aunt Gladys and there were some kids in the courtyard of the building making a snowman. My mom bundled me up like only a Carribean mother would bundle a kid up to go out in the cold. I could hardly move. I ran out flapping my arms and screaming to the kids in Spanish asking if I could play with them. They just looked at me and heard me speak a foreign tongue and ran away. A few weeks later I peed my pants my first week in an American school because the teacher did not understand that "Tengo que ir al bano" while flapping my legs wildly meant "Bitch, I gots to pee!"
Exene Cervenka
One of my favorite bands EVER is X. Exene Cervenka is, to me, a rock n roll poet. One of my fondest memories was seeing them in concert back in the 80's and meeting them afterwards. I asked for her autograph and she gave me that groovy Exene snarl and obliged. I love that woman.
indian food
Self explanatory. So good it makes me high. The spicier the better!
NYC
Probably my favorite place in the world. If I had a choice to live anywhere it would be NYC or San Francisco. Haven't been there since Casey played the Bitter End the night after the last presidential election. What a depressing day THAT was! We awoke that day to the news that we were about to have another Bushy four years. Little did we know just how much WORSE things could get than he had already made them. I'm itchin' to go back.
Sweet Bird of Youth
Written by my favorite playwright Tennessee Williams. My favorite actress of all time, the great Geraldine Page, premiered the role on stage and transferred it to the screen. I love this film mainly for Ms. Page's performance. And Paul Newman too. RIP Paul Newman.
