New Oleans

I have been watching the news from New Orleans for alot of the night, and it’s crazy. I had to remind myself constantly that I was watching broadcasts from a major American city, and not some 3rd world nation on the other side of the world.
I was thinking I was there, I walked those streets and saw the levees that broke and filled that city with million of gallons of water. Walked the streets that are now filled with water, gas, dead corpses of automobiles that once roamed the streets booming music as people tried to throw beads on the antennas, the laughs, the costumes, the boobs. To see those city streets fill with people wandering aimlessly with that glazed look in their eyes of defeat, disbelieve and sadness kills me. Their saying thousands of people dead… thousands of people dead in 5-20 feet of water in the city that alive people are still wandering… wandering and stealing TVs and microwaves… its the end of the world, people
During the broadcast I was reminded how quickly people are reduced to simple animals, looting, shooting, killing in the face of a total tragedy and was reminded on how easy once the structure of society is stripped from people, how they revert back to savage monsters. I saw a report that while the city of New Orleans is drowning, the authorities are have trouble keeping rival gang members from killing each other in the superdome… you get this… FUCKING GANG FIGHTS, in the middle of one of the worse disasters to ever hit this nation. I was stunned in disbelief and kept thinking to myself “are you fucking kidding me? Gang fight, Jesus Christ” Could we put away our petty fucking differences, concerning people who wear red bandanas and green bandanas and try to survive a natural disaster?
I don’t think I have much more to say about it, it just shocks me how we are 3 steps (losing electricity, house, and leadership) from climbing trees back in prehistoric plains.
