Fine wine.... fine company...

Today Co, Amanda and I went to Gloucester with the intent of wandering around some historic sites and shops. We did go to one site that was of great interest to Amanda as they had recently done digging (archeology) there. It was mildly interesting for me. Worth the $4 for admission. The kind of place I'd take mom if she ever came here. It's called Rosewell (pronounced Rose Well). It's a ruined mansion that burned and has some importance to Virginia history. We also checked out some of the local history and walked the main drag where their shoppes are... Those of you who know me best know that I am not as interested in these historical sites as my wife, tho I do enjoy them once in a while.

It was kinda fun. But... the best part of the trip (for me) was stopping on the way home at two different "mom and pop" operations... one was a place where they make and serve their own ice cream... wonderful... called "short lane"... recommend it to anyone in the area...

THe other was a "mother & daughter" operation called "Red, White, and Bordeaux." The lady we spoke with (the mother of the mother daughter ownership team) was as knowledgeable as most wine snobs, but didn't act like one. Mary in fact seemed to enjoy catering to the three of us who seek more wine knowledge, but i think it's safe to say none of us seeks to be a snob. We told her what we were into and she helped us out with some tasings (which we did like because she listened to us... saints be praised someone who knows what they're doing in a customer service job!). Furthermore it is one of the FEW shops around which carries Pomme Lambic (quite possibly the best hard cider in the world).

Yes... it was a very good day off...
