This Saturday I went to
Deer Park Lodge. I hadn't been there in at least a year. My friends who liked going there moved away so, I just haven't had much opportunity to go lately.
It was the usual great music and dancing. The pool room seemed more crowded than normal and there were lots of guys (and gals) wearing leather. It was leather/levi night but I didn't know until I got there.
SES and I decided to go outside to the back patio even tho' rain was threatening. I had forgotten that the smoking ban hadn't taken effect here yet so I needed some fresh air. Outside, we could see the lightning off in the distance. We sat down on a picnic bench and watched as the sky and horizon lit up in brief momentary flashes of jagged voltage scars on the black sky.
After sitting for all of two minutes a familiar face appeared from a nearby crowd. A coworker I have known for 14 years, decked out in leather pants and a cowboy hat walked up with a huge grin, plopped his hat down on the table next to me, and asked if I knew where I was. I replied in the affirmative and he just shook his head, smiled some more and suddenly started talking. It was more conversation than I have had with him since I can remember. He almost never talks at work and now, he is sharing so much about his life, his partner, his second home in the mountains, and his world.
I told him I had a feeling about him and had tried a few times to get him out of his shell but he never opened up. He told me other's had tried too but that he just didn't like our co-workers enough to share.
In any case, I expect to be seeing him and his partner more in the next few months.
