I think there was a little bit of bullshit involved with both "A Dark Turn" and "Truth Takes Time". I felt like the whole Vaughn-might-be-a-secret-traitor storyline was a trifle manufactured. And then to have the truth be just him investigating Irina? Let down. It would have made better sense for him to be continuing pursuit of the Project Christmas kids. That would still explain the KGB contacts and actually tie in to what he's already been researching. Someone on TWoP mentioned that Vaughn is basically a cipher, with no real personality besides Sydney's Love Interest. I'm definitely getting a sense of that. "Hockey" is not a character trait unless you're Happy Gilmore. :-)
The other thing I'm crying foul on is the misdirection that Syd killed Irina. Because in this instance it was actually purposely misleading editing and not just a vague cliff hanger. Yes, I understand the story parallels between real mom and substitute mom but it was still a cheap ploy. That said, I loved Emily here. Her reaction to Sloane, to Irina, working with the CIA only to change her mind, it was beautifully and realistically emoted. Just like I do believe that Irina does love her daughter, despite being a ruthless bitch. Yay to Jack for getting in a little sexitime action and planting the tracking device! He rules. I also really like how both Irina and Sloane are so dismissive of Sark. When she shooed him out it was just such a "the grown-ups are talking now" moment. I can't wait to see what he does when he's not gonna take that anymore!
Oh but one last BS thing: Fake Francie and Will. So...they somehow knew he was going to end up a CIA analyst and that he'd just happen to be working on something that would enable him to view the exact piece of information they needed? Really? Seems unlikely. Still not loving the Francie plot.
