Goodbye 2012!

Jan 03, 2013 15:53

Work is not engaging me. Therefore, I’m stealing from namarie24!

1. What did you do in 2012 that you'd never done before?
Cooked tons of new recipes.

2. Did you keep your new year's resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
Apparently I resolved to bake something every week. I guess I have been baking a lot. But it’s been savory things, not sweet. I’ve been making egg “muffins” and mini-pies and roasting veggies and things like that. I’m not really a resolution person though. I did tell myself that 2013 was the year I was going to work for the agency I’ve been dancing around for the past year or so. So we’ll see what comes of that. I’m talking to someone there tomorrow.

3. Did anyone close to you give birth?
My cousin-in-law’s wife had their first child and he is adorable.

4. Did anyone close to you die?
No. A junior high friend’s mother died but I heard about it after the fact.

5. What countries did you visit?
Puerto Rico, which is both another country and the United States. I loved it.

6. What would you like to have in 2013 that you lacked in 2012?
I’d like to get closer to relocating. Somewhere. Domestic or foreign.

7. What dates from 2012 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
I have no idea. I’m not a date-rememberer.

8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
Probably figuring out the cause of my weight gain and learning through trial and error that I tend to naturally lean paleo in my dietary preferences. So I’ve been changing my shopping and cooking habits and I feel much better, even if I have a long ways to go.

9. What was your biggest failure?
I guess getting into a huge argument with my boss’s boss, about nothing critical, where we both ended up arguing about different things and neither giving in. At least it was behind closed doors.

10. Did you suffer illness or injury?
Just the ongoing celiac disease. That’s not going anywhere.

11. What was the best thing you bought?
Well, the ipad was bought for me, for Mother’s Day, but it was definitely the best purchase.

12. Whose behavior merited celebration?
Every time the Captain and the Rani played together nicely as friends I just love it so much.

13. Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?
The Captain was absolutely inexcusably ill-behaved at his 2nd grade orientation before the start of the school year. It was embarrassing and pathetic.

14. Where did most of your money go?
Mortgage and daycare.

15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?
Disney bought Star Wars! There’s gonna be new Star Wars!!!!!!!!

16. What song will always remind you of 2012?
Oh probably Call Me Maybe.

17. Compared to this time last year, are you:
a) happier or sadder? Happier. I’m pretty even keeled.
b) thinner or fatter About the same, but only because I’ve managed to lose some of the weight I put on from eating gluten free replacement products for a year before realizing they have a higher fat content to make them taste better.
c) richer or poorer? Richer in salary but poorer now that we can’t defer student loans anymore.

18. What do you wish you'd done more of?
Travel. Always travel.

19. What do you wish you'd done less of?
Commute. Blerg. I do not like driving to work.

20. How will you be spending Christmas?
We stayed at home for Christmas Eve. I made Chex mix and mini chicken pot pies and we ate appetizers and opened presents. Then we went to my parents’ house for Christmas Day and hung out with my folks and my sister and her family and drank lots of wine and ate rib eye and the kids opened more presents.

21. Who did you spend the most time on the phone with?
Who talks on the phone anymore?

22. Did you fall in love in 2012?
Been married since 1997. So, no.

23. How many one-night stands?
See above. Again, no.

24. What was your favorite TV program?
I fell for Revolution, quite unexpectedly.

25. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?
Who’s got time or energy for hate?

26. What was the best book you read?
Hooboy, looking through my reading list from 2012, it’s not very highbrow. At all. I read an awful lot of semi-trashy, comedic celebrity memoirs. Tons of supernatural mystery serieses. And a handful of graphic novels. I guess the best would be my re-read of the Hobbit, which I read to the kids at bedtime over the summer, so we’d be ready when the movie came out. The one that sticks with me the most is WOOL, by Hugh Howey, because it was such a unique format and chillingly realistic dystopian future. The one that was most enlightening was Suffering Succotash, by Stephanie Lucianovic, because it opened my eyes about my son’s picky eating and helped me to not sweat it.

27. What was your greatest musical discovery?
Gary Clark Jr.

28. What did you want and get?
A mandoline slicer. It’s not as easy to use as they make it seem on Top Chef!

29. What did you want and not get?
Closer to relocating.

30. What was your favorite film of this year?
Oh let’s just go with the obvious: The Hobbit.

31. What did you do on your birthday?
Drank wine? Probably?

32. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
Travel for work.

33. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2012?
Lazy mom who needs to go shopping.

34. What kept you sane?
Pinterest.

35. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
Definitely Jennifer Lawrence. She’s adorable, realistic, and hilarious.

36. What political issue stirred you the most?
Listening to idiotic debate about non-issues. I guess the marriage amendment proposal and the voter ID amendment proposal on my state ballot. Do you really want to AMEND THE CONSTITUTION for such stupid and bigoted reasons???

37. Who did you miss?
My best work friend from my old job.

38. Who was the best new person you met?
My best work friend from my current job.

39. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2012:
Tell people what you want. They are not psychic. The worst that can happen is they say no.

40. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year:
I’ve got “Somebody That I Used to Know” stuck in my head right now so I can’t think of anything. I don’t know if that’s meaningful or not...
