Not Back To School Again

At the beginning of the year I made two big commitments to myself.

One was that I was going to live this year with Please Do Not Fight as my main and primary commitment. That I would cut away anything that got in the way of it and try my best to live my life in a way that best served my continuing to write and perform original music. This was a pretty nice commitment to make because it ended up encompassing a lot of things including quitting smoking (for my voice) and re-focusing on my personal life (So that it's not adding undue stress).

I made one other commitment above and beyond that: that I was going to do my best to go to Not Back To School Camp as a staff member and make doing so a priority this year. While I've been invited back in various roles over the past few years I have always turned Grace down due to commitments like school or recording an album ... and while I am extremely glad I have done all those things I knew that something would ALWAYS get in the way if I didn't tell myself early on that I was going and plan for it. So I did and I also communicated this to Grace.

Well, Grace just e-mailed me a few days ago and although I haven't received the 'official' invitation yet she assured me that she would be inviting me back to NBTSC as a Session 1 Advisor!

I really identity as an unschooler in my day-to-day life and I've really missed being a part of a community that embraces the ideals surrounding it. And while I get to fit the role of mentor a lot at The Riekes Center I am excited to be in that role and also be able to be a little more myself. I'm also just jazzed on meeting some new people. It's going to be really different ... the last time I was at NBTSC was in 2003 and even then I still had friends who were campers.

But I am super stoked!
