My last Holiday drabble~ For Miw!
Prompt: Yuugao and Kotsuki - Piggyback ride
It's three whole miles away from her apartment when it happens and Yuugao feels terrible about it. He watched her suffer through her pain for an entire quarter of a mile before he spoke up, though, and even if he knows her pride is bruised, he feels bad about that too. But it pained him more to see those half-winces and hear the half-gasps.
He'd heard and seen enough by then and he stepped ahead of her and crouched down, tipping his head enough to look back at her. The recognition that sparked in her eyes quickly changed from surprise to hesitation. But a few encouraging words, a playful threat that he could carry her back in his arms after he knocked her out... and she complied.
Kotsuki really wasn't that heavy, even as he was rising over yet another hill and there was still a mile to go. He paused at the crest of the hill and looked down at the winding path, taking in the scenery and smiling at the setting sun.
He had turned his head a little to look back at her. "Pretty, isn't it?"
"Yeah," she lifted her chin from his shoulder and smiled.
"Not the prettiest thing around, though," Yuugao grinned and hefted her once, repositioning his hands to get a better grip as he kept her on his back.
She wasn't aware of the slight blush, though she knew this could quickly turn embarrassing. "I can walk, really-"
"Nah," Yuugao scoffed and looked ahead again, tensing his legs as he prepared to move. "It's the least I can do, Kotsuki-chan. You just make sure not to choke me, ready?"
"Ready for wha-" She had started to say, but the rest came out as a half-gasp. Yuugao had started sprinting and just as he'd predicted, it took her serious effort not to tighten her arms around his neck in a death grip.
As she watched the ground fly by and Konoha come rushing forward, Kotsuki thought that maybe it wasn't so bad to let Yuugao carry her after all.
