The amazing has happened. You should all be awed.
I own something pink. Blaringly pink. But it's a yukata! And it's so pretty! *wibbles*
May 15th, 2006 (Monday); Internet room, Fukuyama House, Kyoto, Japan; 7 p.m.
I didn't get much done last night, but as long as I do my homework tonight and keep at it, I should be all right.
We went to the Aoi Matsuri parade today, so all of our classes were really short, thus I wasn't quite as embarrassed by the fact that I hadn't done the homework properly. Hopefully I fixed my problem at lunch time, but we'll see. *crosses fingers*
The parade is filled with tons of traditional outfits and the ox-drawn carts and just gorgeous stuff, but it's not very active, so it's easy to get bored during it. Especially when yes, the outfits are pretty, but you've already seen twenty of them before... We went to Shimegamo Jinja (where it started) to see it as a group and Andy and Travis lifted me up again so I could film things. The people there were everywhere and pretty vicious about getting to the front. Thus, I'm glad they lifted me up. I guess it pays to be small and a girl sometimes. Some of the horses weren't so happy, but they didn't act up much. I can't blame them when that parade (going to Kamigamo Jinja at the end) is about three hours long.
I tried Takoyaki for the first time (Travis offered me and Meghan some) and he took video of me eating it. The octupos was fine - though the texture was a little odd - but it was so hot. My gag reflex kicked in two or three times, just because I had too much in my mouth and it was hot, so it looked like I didn't like it, but I didn't get much of the octupos flavor anyway. And there was a lady who told me "bad man" when I got after Travis for playfully saying he'd use me to push through crowds.
We went out to where a really famous Mochi shop was and found out that with the parade, the line was incredibly long, so we're going back tomorrow. Hopefully will be a lot less crowded. (Of course we choose a traditional food to want to eat on a parade day.) While Meghan bought her lunch at an AMPM (they are in Japan, yes, along with 7-11) I spotted a little keychain Naruto dispensor. And ended up spending twelve dollars. *hides face* But I got the ones I was aiming for! But anyway...
Then we (Meghan, Travis, Andy, and I) went to a river side to eat our lunches and it was good. We discovered that none of us like tomatoes and both Meghan and I have to suffer through them daily. I guess that's what you get for being polite and eating them the first time... But Travis finally figured out how to look up kanji on my electronic dictionary and he showed me a lot of the functions. Now hopefully I can do my homework on my own. *crosses her fingers*
We went back to the church to pick up our bikes and then Meghan and I biked up to Kamigamo Jinja. It was a lot smaller than we'd thought, but there was a lot of people there (with the parade ending there, of course) and it was a whole lot closer than we'd thought. It's super close to her house, too, so after Andy finally arrived by bus we wandered around and then headed home seperately. But that's not to belittle the surprising conversation I had with Meghan while waiting for Andy.
Travis has touched me now and then, and I always found it fun to talk to him, but now he's doing it even more. And she told me that she totally thinks he likes me - I naturally flirt back, so I have no idea if I've been giving him the wrong vibes, eek! - and at Fushimiinari she purposefully went on ahead so we could talk or whatever. I was just confused as to why she kept leaving the group... Yup, I'm oblivious once again. Can't not live up to my namesake, ne? So yeah. I have no idea what to think of it, but Meghan thinks it's cute and now I know I'll be noticing things more. And if things are happening naturally, then why stop it, hm? I think I'll try harder to watch things, but...we'll see. I'm not allowed to date here anyway. Heh. At least within the group... And "a love made in Japan", cute Meghan, cute.
Got caught by the parade on the ride back and ended up talking to two very nice older women who let me come right up to the street to watch the parade. One of them even has a daughter married to an American in Washington. Go figure, huh? They answered my questions and I think probably found my Japanese cute. Or at least didn't mind me talking to them. Go me for random conversations.
Got home and then went out with Haruyo and Asuka to another Depatoo to look for a kimono/yukata. Got a pink one through much deliberation and trying on the blue one (I almost defaulted to it, but the pink was too pretty and they all agreed). I also saw some nice jackets and I've been wanting something just a little thicker than my black one, but not as massive as my yellow rain one, so...I got one. I had to ask an employee where they were, but I did it! And then followed Asuka (after hesitating and then having to go up by myself) up to the bookstore while Haruyo got groceries. I got some manga and still have no idea how to get around the "Comics" section in bookstores. They're not quite alphabetical, or...yeah. Perhaps I just need to spend an afternoon there to figure it out. Oh well.
Got home again and Shizuka thought my yukata choice was good and I came up here to type. And now I must eat dinner - whenever Haruyo calls out "Gohan desu yo!" and then do homework. With my better understood dictionary. Hah. Thanks Travis.
*dances* Today was a good day. Very good.
