...and tells of the many ups and downs of today. And this week and stuff.
Anyway, I have a habit of taking pictures of the food I make. Not all the time, mostly just when it does something freakish or well...we have disagreements. I thought it was apt to share them today.
First we'll start with the German Pancakes I made in the last...week or two. They're not hard, really. Mix up eggs and milk and a few other things and pour into a buttered pan and viola! Pop it in the oven, wait, and you have food!
Unfortunately, my oven cooks things faster than anticipated and while I usually can adjust things so they don't burn, well. German Pancakes have a tendency to rise. And rise and rise.
This one just took it a step farther.
It was nearly touching the top of the oven when I peeked in (five minutes under the recommended time) and the top edges were a bit on the crispy side. And the rack wasn't even on the top spot, just the middle one. *sigh*
And then today's...adventure. I had a generally good day. Slept in a tidge later than usual, got to RP and well...watch Brazil kill things. I tried to, but Psychic Kitties only do so well against 200 man armies. Air Warlocks, well, they tend to do quite a bit better. ...at least I helped pwn a god earlier? The GM really hates my ability to paralyze people and then we can wail on them...
I also got to go to Borders and get four more manga. They only had #2 of From Far Away, but I ordered #9-12, so...yeah. (I already own 4-8, and 2, now.) And I got #5 of Elemental Gelade, #6 of FY: Genbu Kaiden and, and! I finally got #5 of Demon Diary and completed my collection of that series. Mmmmm. I love that one. And I totally recommend Genbu Kaiden to anyone who gets utterly fed up Miaka in the normal FY. I own the whole series (up until the OVA section in the manga) out of principal with FY, but...I really do wish on several occasions that Miaka and Yuki would just go bugger off and we could get less whiny protagonists. Takiko (Genbu Kaiden) is much better in that regard. She's got issues, yeah, but she's got very good reasons for them. And she sucks it up and deals with them. Plus her motivation for being the priestess is about as honorable (though I can see how it could be viewed as selfish) as they come. And I'll continue on with the food...
Anyhoo, so Brazil and I were invited to dinner with a couple from our ward a few weeks ago. Unfortunately the plan fell through for that week, but we rescheduled for tomorrow. And I was asked to make a dessert. That's fine by me. I had been craving Lemon Cheesecake for a while anyway. ...I'd just forgotten that the stuff hates me. This was my second attempt to make it and well, it turned out nearly as bad as last time. *sigh*
So, it involves having lemon jello not quite set. I'll wait and poke it and nothing has changed. But then I'll get bored, find something to entertain myself (manga this time) and wait too long. And have nearly solid - or solid - jello. That's not what you want. So, I start spazzing about that and trying to poke it out of it's solid state. Then the can of refridgerated evaporated milk decides it doesn't want to open. ...so I borrow Brazil's pocket knife and proceed to poke a hole where I shouldn't. So, I can't pry it open, it's kinda leaking, the jello is solid, and I want it all to just work. Brazil manages to get the can so we can pour it out and then we start mixing the ingredients together. The graham cracker crust is all set and waiting for us, though it seems a little thicker than usual...but oh well. We go to pour it in and oh! It decides to displace the crust and settle on the bottom in the middle. And it's not like I can just scoop it back out and make it play nice.
...so we decided to give up, let is finish setting, we'd eat it ourselves and we'd have brownies and ice cream for dessert tomorrow. Woe. I'd tried to so hard, too.
And here is the visual results if the verbal ones didn't make much sense to you.
The top.
The bottom. Woe.
And that will end the sojourn into my day today. And life in general. At least I managed to call home (to ask for details on ingredients amounts) just when Papa (paternal grandpa) was having a birthday party at my parent's house? I still managed to miss Nana's, even though I totally was planning on calling her. *sigh*
