En route to Ithaca, I butterfingered my iPhone and it fell face down to the concrete.
The crystal face is now webbed with interesting, artistic cracks. I call it, "Man's Inhumanity to Man". When MHA posts the picture he took, I'll relink it here.
I'll be going and making puppydog eyes at the Apple store in Sorrycuse tomorrow morning, first thing. Best case: they charge me an "out of warranty replacement fee" of $200 and swap it on site. Worst case: they try to tell me I have to buy an entirely new device and, because this one is only 6 months old, at the unsubsidized price of $499.
The $200 I'll swallow as penalty for my own folly not having a case that protects its cover, although given that I was trying to get it out to use it, I"m not sure that actually would have helped. $499? Not so much. In that case, I'll go to the AT&T store and try to get some el-cheapo swapped in for the number 'til I can get home and swap in my old first-gen iPhone, which I never did actually sell.
Just to forestall any further notes on these topics: no, i will not be replacing it with an Android phone. No, despite great temptation, I will probably not be using this as an opportunity to leave AT&T, unless they tell me that swapping in an el-cheapo would ALSO be considered contract termination because I'd be (temporarily) radically reducing my data service capabilities. But that would STILL cost me almost $200, since I would still owe the better part of an early termination fee. No, I am not willing to make swapping in my original iPhone Plan A, because I *like* having a 3rd Generation iPhone, and yes, I'm a spoiled brat that way. However, there are limits, as delineated above.
