Blood Tests Galore

Dec 28, 2006 16:31

I am a pin cushion. I have holes in my arms. HOLES. IN. MY. ARMS.

When you're as pregnant as I am (25 weeks), you get tested for Gestational Diabetes. Which is a type of diabetes you can have while you are pregnant. So off I trot to the Pathology place to get my blood taken, and they sit me down, make me drink the glucose drink, and get me to wait half an hour.

This drink made me feel SO SICK and so miserable, and so tired, and so crap in general. Fortunately, the hour flew by, and I went merrily home, with a little white piece of cotton ball taped to my arm and told Matthew my sob story. (The lady that took my blood was a butcher. She stabbed me 3 times, and then just wriggled her needle around until she struck a vein).

The next day I get a letter in the mail requesting me to ring up the office, as I need more tests done. I think "More tests???". So I ring, and they explain to me that the lady that butchered my arm the day before, forgot to label all my tubes of blood (so many tubes) and can I please sit the test again?

So off I trot to the Pathology place and I drink the drink, and sit and wait an hour, and do it all again. It was still pretty unpleasant, but mistakes can be made.......so I didn't complain.

The next day I get a phone call from the Doctors office saying that my blood sugars were high, and can I sit a longer test the next day, as I'm required to FAST. OH NO! NO FOOD!??!? I LOVE BREAKFAST THOUGH. Ok I think. That's fine. I'll go in tomorrow and get it done. Not a problem.
NOT A PROBLEM.

So I get there.
And I get seated.
And the lady whips out the same drink I've been made to drink the other two times. The drink you're meant to drink for the longer test is meant to be stronger, so I ask the lady this, and she says "No, last time you had a white one". I said "No I didn't. I had the last test twice, and they were both green".
So then there is whispering and pointing and I'm plonked down to test anyway. I had to get blood drawn, drink the drink, wait an hour, get more blood drawn, wait another hour, and get more blood drawn (good thing I like to read huh?).
So during this time I am thinking to myself ..............did they cock this whole thing up? And is all this sugar overdosing going to be hurting my little baby?????
