Haha. Love your icon. Badass hamster is so cute.
Credit for my icon goes to pernickety. I thought the Houses fit, because of Chase's stint as a rat. House is smart, but he's not as sneaky as Chase. When he wants to get something done, he does it blatantly and doesn't even try to cover himself up, most of the time. We can see from the board meeting in Control that he's not used to lying to get his way.
House doesn't treat everyone like shit; he just ACTS like he can. His words are cutting, but I doubt he'd do anything intentionally to hurt one of his ducklings. He has more interesting things to deal with, like diseases. He's not particularly interested in the patients themselves, but he tries his darndest to cure them.
Come to think of it, House is pretty protective of his staff. Sure, it seems like "he rides everybody," but...He didn't fire Chase when he could have and probably should have - instead, he subjected him to some brief, mindless tasks. He even said to Cameron, "I'm not going to crush you." He points out (and sometimes flat out guesses) flaws in his staff in order to improve them professionally and yes, sometimes just to know things about them. He's tried to probe into Chase's issues with Daddy, Foreman's issues with homeless people, and Cameron's attraction to damaged men.
This brings up an interesting contrast with Wilson. When House points out Wilson's flaws ("you love everybody"), he doesn't dwell on it or ask mean-spirited, pointed questions. Instead, he nudges and tries to draw out new information with things he already knows. He's gotten to that stage with Wilson where he doesn't need to pretend not to care. House knows that Wilson has a pattern of loving easily and not being very faithful, but I doubt he's had a talking-to about this with his friend, like the date with Cameron in which he dissected her problems like a bug under a microscope. It makes me wonder just how good a friend House is to Wilson. Cameron felt momentarily hurt by by the date, but it gave her a chance to examine her Houselust. Maybe House jokes about Wilson's womanizing, like it's no serious thing, because he's afraid of either of the two outcomes: 1. Wilson doesn't change and is resentful at House for trying to dissect/change him 2. Wilson does change his behavior and his ablility to connect physically and emotionally with another human being threatens his friendship with House.
Because whether House admits it or not, he needs Wilson.

Wow. Now, *that* is debate. ::grin::
I also think you're quite right about House's interactions with Wilson -- there seems to be snarking back and forth that House's ducklings don't do (probably because he's their *boss*), and House can be snide about the womanizing, but maybe there's a bit of him not going for the jugular or picking apart every detail.
Of course, my experience comes from watching all of three episodes, so I should probably shut up... *-_-*
