my crazy family is down one crazy daughter
dinner with family is always interesting. Especially when family includes my grandfather and his girlfriend, two 80+ conservatives. And my father who leans towards them and loves to provoke me. I drank lots of beer and wine and that made it more fun. It was still painful to hear what these people will spit out about men and women for example. I fought back after biting my tongue for long enough. I believe I used the words "patriarchy", "structural" and "social constructions" in about every other sentence. My mom backed me up, mainly because she loves using the phrase "social construction". She uses it about everything.
Right before we left my grandfather's girlfriends decided it was her responsibility to improve my pronounciation because apparently I say the swedish letter "ä" in a horribly abrasive way and it sounds horrible and so she grabbed my face and tried to teach me. Shit. I can't stand that woman. But at least she makes me grandfather happy...
They're leaving for Malta in a week and staying for a fortnight. 82 and 85 years old and they're constantly travelling to new places. It's nice. But we're all traumatized by the pillow on my grandfather's bed every time we come over. It reads "Older men make better lovers" and i guess he got it from Ingrid. My sister and I cringe every time we see it. My mother just laughs and says "I guess that means there's still hope for your father".
