The Record-Holding Feast!!!

Yesterday I went to New Bedford's very own Feast of the Blessed Sacrament aka the Madeira Feast. It is nearing it's 100th anniversary. And although it started as a religious feast for Madeiran immigrants, it has become a multi-block 4-day long party that rivals Germany's epic Oktoberfest. It now boasts 3 stages of music (both Portuguese traditional ( Read more... )

It pretty much is. ALthough what was, even twenty years ago, a much more traditional feast, it has become a destination for anyone who wants to join in on the fun, of all ethnicities. Though the music is still either portuguese or american, and all the food served is in the portuguese tradition, it's fun for everyone. Well, except if you can't handle large crowds. I tend to go on Thursday and/or Sunday, the two least busy days (which are still packed, but not outrageously so). I once went on a Fri/Sat to see a particular band and it took me nearly an hour to get to the bathroom, wait in line and actually GO. It was MASSIVE. If you go to the link in the entry and look at the picture at the top, with all the people watching the stage...you'd see EXACTLY what I mean. It's CRAZY. This is why it has set size and, errr, "volume" records.

And it was the eve of Synny's Birthday, so she got her party on for damn sure. I had to leave at 9pm to work karaoke down the street. But I still had a few hours of "FESHTA".

With my job(s) I work with so much of the public. I can't go 20 ft at the feast without stopping to chat with someone. It's crazy. Louise has the same issue. We tag teamed the feast a couple years ago, and it was a riot. I have friends tell me, "Bri, you and Weezy know EVERYONE!" Hahaha...well I really "get it" when I go to events like that. Students, Parents of students, old friends, family, friends' family, former students, karaoke singers, old co-workers, fellow musicians, etc. @__@
But I must admit it makes me feel a little special. ^_^
