Back to life, back to reality

I am back from vacation. It was wonderful. Some day I will post the pictures on snapfish. I picked December for vacation because it is the slowest month of the year for me at work. I forgot how crazy the holidays are. It seems there has been one crisis after another since I've returned. While in St. Thomas I got an hysterical voice message from a girl friend. When I spoke to her Sunday she was angry. She called me Monday night while having a nervous breakdown. I was completely freaked out and had no idea what to do. I called a psychologist friend and she called her and calmed her down. Thank God. Call me when you get something in your eye, not when you can't remember how to breathe.
Yesterday was my first day back at Sears. When I tried to examine my first patient, nothing would turn on. A fuse had blown. I brought her into our back exam room, which is only used for storage. While the major equipment worked, nothing hand held would work. (It turns out all the rechargeable batteries expired five years ago and had completely corroded. Nice.) At another part of the exam I tried to turn on an adjustable lamp. Nothing happened. I turn the light around to look at it, and there is no bulb. At this point the little girl's father starts to laugh. Luckily I was able to finish the rest of the exam without a problem. The rest of the day went smoothly.
This morning while I drove to work I was in an accident. I was on the highway and it was very congested. I saw the turn signal go on on the truck next to me right as it changed lanes into me. It caught the front of my car with its bumper and I started to spin around. Somehow I was able to get the car in the ditch in the middle of the highway instead of hitting another car. Luckily the truck pulled over. It was a little old man. My poor car. I was told my insurance rates shouldn't go up this time. WTF??? Someone changes lanes into me and I get penalized!?! My lights were on and last time I checked my car was not invisible. I thought Monday's phone call was one of the scariest moments in my life until today. Feeling yourself lose control of your car on a busy road is pretty damn scary. Now I'm afraid to drive in the snow tomorrow. We are forbidden to miss a day without the permission of the regional manager and all hours missed must be made up in the same business week. Like my patients are going to show up. There are a whole three of them on the schedule Even if they do show up I'll still bring in less than the cashier. He can kiss my fat ass.
I feel better now.
