Prologue

It is the year 2741.

Mutants are roaming aimlessly in the streets; some running in search of salvation, some running for a place to hide, some too confused to do anything else but to run. Their powers both serve as aids and hindrances, but they can do absolutely nothing about the latter. Those who can fly, fly, but they're always the first ones down on the road decorated with blood by the countless corpses that have fallen before them. Those who can disappear, disappear, but they're always the first ones to emerge with half their bodies missing. Those who can swim, swim, but they're always the first ones to end in conflagration, their cries going ignored as the rest rush past them without a second glance.

Wherever they hide, they always find them. Always.

The Age of Metal. The Cyber Millennium. No matter what they call it, it still spells out the unbelievable carnage wrought upon the mutant race. On every corner of every country, nobody is safe. Nobody escapes the metallic lords. Nobody.

That is, unless they are human.

Most humans are spared from death; those who turn mutants over live to spend another day, and those who don't are treated just like any other mutant-dead on the spot.

Humans are a fearful race, and they must do what they can to survive. If that means leading innocents straight to their deaths, so be it-as long as it means living. "Survival of the fittest" is the code they live by, and if one does not have the capacity to uphold this way of life, then they are no better than mutants in their eyes.

However, not all humans are so desperate, so cruel. Some remember humility. Some remember compassion. Some remember charity. Some remember love.

In the midst of the widespread massacre, love blossoms in the most unexpected instances, blossoms in the most unlikely people, and little did two such people know that their love can save the remaining mutant population in feats only they have the ability to accomplish.
