Thursday night consisted of a MAJOR panic. Poor old Kitty Cat's eye had been bothering her the afternoon, so we bathed it to see if it'd clear up... by 6.30, mother had gone out to meet a friend in london, Mazz was at Laine... Kitty jumped on my lap, and her poorly eye was FILLED with blood, within the eyeball itself. It was very sore and painful for her, she was trying to avoid the light. I tried not to panic.
1st course of action in an event like this- phone mother. Mother not answering phone. Tried her 3 times, she was NOT answering. Took a very deep breath, cuddled kitty, tried to stop shaking.
2nd- Phone vet. Now, I have a phobia about making cold calls... I simply CAN NOT call someone out of the blue, even my dad! It totally brings me out in a panic. But this is Kitty. I HAD to phone the vet to ask for advice. I keep their number in my mobile memory for emergencies like this. So... phoned vet. receptionist/nurse answered, put me on hold for a couplke of minutes, I was shaking so badly... she told me to bring Kitty in for 7.30. It was 7pm then... the vet's a 20 min walk away. Also, Memphis was on her way over, expecting to arrive at my house at approximately, oh, 7.30? would have been good if she was there earlier, or later... not polite to have a friend come round to an empty house!
Ohh, added bit of fun, all thursday was a rough day- woke up in time to get to college but shoulder was hurting too much. So I went upstairs and had a nap until about 1, when I had an Osteopath's appointment- current problem with stuck rib under crushed shoulder. pain so painful I was way beyond pain and most of my mind had shut down. I tell ya, I'd make a CRAP torture victim, I get to the point where it no longer hurts quickly, and fall asleep! then they'd wake me up and demand information and I'd be like "whu? I dunno? huh?"
Anyway, I was not looking forward to walking 20 mins carrying a rather portly cat in basket, with a very bad shoulder. I simply could NOT cope on my own. After I got off the phone to the vet, I phoned Mazz to find out if she could get home soon, TW answered her mobile, and I lost it... started crying loads, majorly panicking. Not so good. then I hung up on Mazz, tried to phone mother, got through to her this time. She was in Piccadilly, very nice for her, none too helpful for Kitty. Then I phoned my dad- hopefully he was in the area, and could at very least walk up to the vet with me, he might even have a working car, I didn't know, I just phoned him. He said he'd be right over... Mazz phoned back, I got her to come straight home, so she could let Memphis in if nothing else. So I got Kitty into cat basket, much to her disgust. Waited a few mins for father, but it was already 7.15 and I HAD to get going or i'd not get there in time. So, Kitty and I set out walking to the Vet's, the other side of Carshalton village. 2 mins down the road, mother phoned again to check up, Mazz had phoned her.
It's times like these that I'm SO glad we're on pay-monthly phones, if I worked on credit you can BET I'd have run out. Well, 2 mins later my dad phoned, asking where I was, so I told him to meet me at The Sun pub... wasn't sure if he was driving or on foot, but I was glad when a car pulled up outside the pub and my dad was driving! So, he got Kitty and I to the Vet, much faster and warmer than otherwise. Oh, did I mention it started to snow as I left the house? Kitty really dislikes cars tho... unhappy yowling complaints the whole way.
Well, we got to the vet, I was sincerely hoping Kitty was about to embarrass me entirely by having only the slightest little problem with her eye, after I'd spread a good dollop of panic around... Kitt didn't approve of all this AT ALL. But she was very good, the only thing was the vet couldn't take her heartbeat as he couldn't hear it over her "I'm scared, comfort me!!!" purr. So, he gave me some eyedrops for her, that were to try to clear it out a bit so he could get a better look when he saw her saturday. After that, the last panic was that I had no cash nor credit card to PAY for the treatment... fortunately my dad paid, so we just owe him £30. Cats are expensive!
Then we drove home, father came in for coffee, and a chat, Mem and Mazz were both there already, so I got to relax! Mem and I stayed up late talking, as usual... Friday passed without a hitch, Kitty objecting to the eyedrops, especially as one of them gets into her mouth and makes cats DROOL EVERYWHERE!!! Poor dear, didn't approve at ALL.
We got her to the vet this afternoon for another look at her- the drooly eyedrops had done their work in dilating her pupil completely, so in theory the vet could see into her eye. unfortuinbately, the blood has turned into a black cloud across almost her entire right eye, he couldn't see a thing. So he tried to take a blood sample from her neck, she was having NONE of that! He had to shave a patch of her neck, but she was not having that needle near her throat. no. But she let him take some from her arm, not enough, but some. He also had a look at her daggy butt- she might have problems with her anal glands.... He's going to see her again on Weds, might put her under general anaesthetic on thurs, to have a good look at what's wrong.
The VERY worst that could happen is that her right eye is so damaged they have to take it out... were it another cat not Kitty, this would be terrible. But Kitt is a piratical cat anyway, being the re-incarnation of Lady Griddlebone, and not terribly active, so the loss of depth perception wouldn't dramatically alter her quality of life. If it comes to that, I'll make her a little black eye-patch.
this is her a few months ago! such a pretty Kitty...
