I decided to attend the walk-in recruitment for a Stewardess position in SIA (Singapore Airlines). Initially, I wanted to drag Denise with me, but she had some prior commitments, so I was left all alone.

1st round - Group Interview
I was placed in a group of 9 girls and we all were ushered into a room to face a girl and a guy. We had to introduce ourselves, why we wanted to become a FA and had to relate an embarrassing moment that we had to go through.

2nd round - Group Interview
They took your height (157.5cm) and weight (48.6 KG) here. I got cut at this round as I did not make the minimum height requirement (158cm). I felt a bit disgruntled as they made me wait 1 hour in between the 1st and 2nd round only to cut me within 5 minutes of me walking in the room? So I walked back in and asked them to re-measure me and I got up to (157.7) and the girl said "I am sorry, it is still below our height requirement"

I was all ready to pack and up leave when that same girl came to me and said "Hold on, you come here and try to touch the top of this door" I did what she told me to do and imagine how happy I was when she said "Ok, you're in!"

So I had to choose a Kebaya from a rack and put it on. 1st outfit I tried, my boobs (Damn you double D's) could not fit into the uniform. So I had to request for a larger outfit and I got one that fit although it was a little bit skin tight though.

After putting on the kebaya, I had to walk towards this lady show her the front and back of my hands and walk to and fro from her. She would then proceed to ask you a question. If you pass this round, you will be asked to move to a spotlight where a beautician would look at your complexion and if you have any scars or marks on your face.

Passing rate : 3 out of 6

3rd round - 1-1 Interview
Met this really pleasant girl called Su-Mei who interviewed me. She knows my current company and said that she has worked with them before as they were one of SIA's IT vendors. So that started the ball rolling and instead of an interview it felt more like a chit chat session. She got me to read a passage. Following this, she said, "I'm gonna put you through the next round as you're cheerful and you speak well"

Passing rate : 1 out of 3

4th round - Water Confidence Test
They would take your height and weight here after you change. I was so nervous as I thought the whole height drama would happen again. But I managed to get measured in as 158.5! So you had to jump of a mock plane into the swimming pool below and swim backstroke to the other end of the pool. Easy huh?

Passing rate : 10 out of 11

5th round - Management Interview
This was the last round. Basically, you had to wait your turn and 2 interviewers will ask you questions. Again, it felt more like a chit chat session than a interview. After the whole session, you have to go out and wait for the results to be handed to you.

Passing rate : 4 out of 9

So that is my whole journey to where I am now. Yes, I am gonna be one of the waitresses in the sky with SQ. Hopefully I can start on my training soon (major pay cut!!) and embark on my globe trotting adventures. Hopefully I can meet less zappy seniors and not get so embroiled into the politics. Here is to me and my new journey as a Singapore girl....
