ryan in france fits so well. this is so hopeful, and summer in france is a nice break from gross winter weather. :)

Hee. I always end up writing summer fics for this exchange, probably because I live in the southern hemisphere. :D Thanks you. I'm glad it provided a nice break for you.

This is beautiful, pretty much the best fic I've read in ages. And, being unemployed, I read a lot of fic :). I love the way that you show the reader what has broken in their friendship without explicitly telling her - the amount of time they've spent apart, their romantic history, and the misunderstandings. I think that your branch into an older Brendon and Ryan is wonderful - the blend between their present characteristics and ongoing maturity. They've changed as people, but there are some things that will never change - Ryan's penchant for strange clothing, Brendon's humming habits, and, of course, their unique ability to set each other off in the worst way. The ending is nicely ambiguous too - I like that there are no certainties that they'll succeed and that it definitely will not be quick.

Thanks so much for writing and for sharing!

Oh wow! Thank you so much! Since the split, I have been absolutely fascinated about the dynamic between Brendon and Ryan, especially since they both seem to be broadcasting this really fascinating vibe since the split that I could talk about for hours. I spent days and days angsting over the fact that I could not get them to fix themselves in the end, until I came to terms with the fact that it was probably never going to be a quick fix with them.

I have spent way too much time thinking about this.

Hello, here via softlyforgotten. Just wanted to say that this is one of the most gorgeous things I've read in a while. The pictures you painted were crystal clear and just really lovely, and I love the idea of Brendon and Ryan in their 30s trying to work things out; all the old pain and arguments still there but being seen through the eyes of older, more mature and confident men. But at the same time, I love how they can make each other feel like awkward boys again. I thought that was a really nice touch.

Thank you so much, I am beaming like crazy over here. I really wanted to examine their dynamic in this fic, because I think right now it is crazy weird, and I have spent hours with people just gushing. It was really what got me back into writing, so I am so glad it has worked for you.

Exactly. I find that I am even more interested in them now, post-split, than I was when they were in a band together. I suddenly want to read so much Ryan/Brendon!

Me too. I actually have an aftermath of divorce fic in the works, even though I swore after this story I'd be done with writing.
