1. Minitrued his 'pantiwadulous' insult to Yoon Ha Lee and Nora Jemisin, in keeping with his rep for doing this - apparently unaware that people who get reps for retconning their faux pas also get screencaps;
2. Has now decided that he's going to charge people $40 to take their stories down.
--No, that wasn't a typo.
3. Continues to insult anyone who doesn't want to be associated with him and his as mindless PC types, "whiners," a "lynch mob," (!) and accuses them of being "hypocrites" who are exploiting a poor woman (his website maintainer) if they don't want to shell out $40 to be removed from his archive - an oh-so-typical conservative attack, it's got barnacles on it.
Now, I don't find this so much sad, as energizing. After so many decades of struggling against this poisonous millieu of Incompetent Bitter Privilegitis, and being told it's not there, or it's So Over, that I'm overreacting because I'm a woman, or because I've been intimidated into White Guilt/Liberal Guilt by the PC Police, all the bullshit that is blatted out in more or less subtle forms every day IRL and now openly are laid out in our corner of the cultural world, it's a chance to do more than fume and lament the tenacity of entrenched privilege and the attitudes and memes that support it.
You can't fight clouds. You can't fight vaporous entities that won't give you anything solid to hit back at, and everyone else stands around saying "you're crazy, you're claiming that there are enemies out there but you're just seeing things in the mist" - so when it suddenly coalesces into a visible-to-all Thing with tentacles and claws that you can actually zap, it's a relief on multiple levels. Take that, you cthonic horror!
This is why there is nothing these reactionary bullies hate more, than having their own words trap them up. Which is why they try to claim, ALWAYS, that they were taken out of context, they didn't really say that, you're just misreading, NOBODY else sees it that way, you're just crazy/paranoid/a bigot yourself - and they can get away with it IRL, and used to be able to, when they controlled the information flow.
Which is why I say, a blessing on David Brock for setting up Media Matters, a blessing on all those who have called out and continue to call out the twisted worldviews and pernicious privilege-mindedness that is the true Soul of Conservativism, S.Z. and Scott and the quondam Pete of Dark Window and Roy Edroso and Fred and Orcinus and Echidne everyone on blogs large and small who does their best to catch and unpack and display these Id-Monsters for the general edification and derision so that we can start clearing away their influence on society.
Until at last Bill O'Reilly and Rush Limbaugh and Kathleen Parker et al are no longer given hundreds upon hundreds of thousands of dollars each year to mainstream this crap - this crap that leads to "civilized" governments' abilities to wage long, bloody, unprovoked colonial wars without riots and Glorious Revolutions resulting, btw, it's not innocent and harmless apart from the hurt feelings of us unworthy non-male, non-white unpersons - but instead are relegated to weeping into their drinks at some backwater bar - and William Sanders and David Truesdale and all that coterie can join them at their table.
And no, I don't feel at all sorry for enjoying the spectacle of Poetic Justice On The Wing, Instant Karma in real-time. As a better writer than I once put it, Children need to know that the monsters can be defeated.
