Yes, it's EXACTLY like that

I should probably flock this, but I'm feeling daring (and anyway no names are going to be used.) The other day I was at a family get-together where there were guests, and ran across someone I know a little better than slightly, who is married to one of my former college professors. She married him right out of (or possibly even from within, I don't remember now) school, which caused some controversy, and pushed the whole rules re dating students thing to about the breaking point, but that all blew over and now they have 4 or 5 kids. In the course of chatting she asked me about some time off that I had coming due me at work, and if I was going to go anywhere on vacation. No, I answered, "I'm too poor, I can't afford to go away."

She blinked for a second at that frankness, and then said chirpily, "That's like when the school gives my husband a sabbattical, and it's not enough money for us to go away or do anything! All he can do is write his book."

I sort of laughed, because she's little and fluffy like a blue eyed canary and there wouldn't have been anything served by being sarcastic, but all I could think was, "Yeah, barely making enough to pay the rent and eat every month is JUST like being a tenured professor getting paid to stay home and not go in and not prepare classes and not grade papers every day for a whole year, but instead read and do research and write in peace and quiet in the house that you own, and not being able to take your 4-5 children and SAHM on vacation instead of doing what they're paying you to do. It's EXACTLY like that."

Women who have never in their lives had to work for the roof over their head just are incapable of Getting It, I've concluded. Perhaps the Ladies against Feminism are right - for themselves, and maybe *they* oughtn't have the right to vote, seeing how little they comprehend the world. [snark]
