New US emigration policy

Mar 16, 2006 18:25

Americans are no longer going to be allowed to enter Canada, Australia, or the EU, if they are unwilling to purchase and view (at a cost to themselves of $US 450) a film which shows, among other things, two men kissing and a topless beauty emerging Venus-like from the waves.

Oh wait, that's not it at all. Nobody cares if bigoted Americans - or just shy and body-conscious ones, or devout Christians who are offended by public nudity - come in. Because even our shit don't stink, you know.

Even though it was barely weeks ago here that the latest murderer was let off with a lesser sentence on the "Gay Panic Defense," and we have candidates around the nation running for both platforms on various homosexual persecution planks, up to and including death for being gay. Not like there was a collective cataplexy among a large segment of the population over the idea that a movie with two men kissing might win an Oscar--

Not like there's anything of deliberately shitting-on-the-stranger in the assumption that all members of a certain Other group will feel the same way, and be unworthy - or in that it would be applied unequally to different strangers, particularly the richer and paler ones.

It's not like white secular humanists are ever howling hypocrites or bigots themselves, no, nevah!
