Staring out at the ocean makes me think of home... I remember standing on the shores of Monterey Bay with my family, looking out at the sea. Only we never had a view like this. The only time I ever saw the ocean like this was that one time in the Megazord... and even then I could see the shore underneath me ( Read more... )

A prison... yeah, that sounds like an appropriate word for what this place seems to be.

If it was some kind of sanctuary something would be telling us that. If it was some kind of medical issue or quarantine there'd be something tell us that too.

...actually, it could be like some kind of experiment, I guess, but that doesn't make it much different than a prison.

I'm afraid it's going to be difficult to get a survey going. I've tried, but it seems that everyone's still reluctant to talk about themselves. Of course that makes sense, when you consider we've all been kidnapped.

I think it's in our best interest to work together as comrades, though. My name is Tsuki Asahi and you can count me among the captive who are of Japanese origin.

I would be reluctant, too, but I've spent too much of my life being forced to hide what I am because I'm not another cookie-cutter middle class white guy. Not anymore.

As for statistics, we can probably ID most of the Japanese folk and any Latin Americans or Spanish nationals by name alone. I mean, Tsuki? Carlota? Like, totally generic melting pot names there. Everyone else, and people who don't have normal names for their background, they make it a little harder.

And yeah, that sounds like a good assessment. I'm Commander Carlota Santiago, but call me Charlie. That's what everyone calls me, ever since grade school.

What did you do back home, Tsuki?

Using the names for identification would be easy if we were all from the same world, but I've met several people here who have clearly Japanese names, yet have never heard of the nation of Japan. It leaves us with the task of not only determining origin, but also comparing that place to the one we're familiar with. We have a lot of work ahead of us, don't we?

Pleasure to meet you, Charlie. I have to admit, I feel safer already having you here.

As for me, well... It's no secret anymore. I'm the emperor of Japan.

Emperor of Japan? Well, pleased to meet you too, your Highness. I wonder if everyone else who was taken is as important as we are.
