With his hands submersed in water, trying to finish washing the dishes from lunch; Scott’s mind was elsewhere. He rinsed the plate off of suds and even the radio he had on that was playing a song by some band couldn’t break his pattern. The mutant was still thinking of the best way to ask Damon something that was on his mind. He just couldn’t find the best wording that wouldn’t seem...weird.

Said plate was the last dish and he turned off the faucet, letting the sink drain while he wiped his hands on the dish towel and leaned against the sink. He just couldn’t put things in the right order without it sounding stupid to him. Scott grumbled a little, only to turn around and nearly collide with Damon. He let out a breath and looked to the ground, hands on the sink barely keeping him steady. “You scared me a little.”

“Sorry.” His dark eyes lit up almost curiously. “You seem tense. What’s wrong?” Damon’s brow furrowed as Scott could hear the song ending, already starting to move into another.

“Just thinking,” he told him with a slight smile as he straightened up.

When the stars line up
And you catch a break
People think you're lucky
But you know its grace
It can happen so fast
Or a little bit late
Timing is everything

And now it seemed the radio was delving into his mind. The song wasn’t that bad though, even for what sounded to be country music. “Do you wanna dance?” Scott looked at Damon, caught off guard by the offer and raising his eyebrows. “It’s the first decent song I’ve heard come on all day.”

He nodded with a coy smile, stepping closer as fingers entwined and an arm went around his waist. Scott put his free arm around Damon’s neck in a half hug. A smile broke out onto his face. He hadn’t exactly danced with someone since middle school and even then it didn’t seem to hold a meaning to it.

“What’s on your mind?”

You know I've had close calls
When it could've been me
I was young when I learned just how fragile life can be
I lost friends of mine
I guess it wasn't my time
Timing is everything

Shifting his arm to rest his chin on Damon’s shoulder, Scott shrugged. “Just the usual.”

“You don’t usually stare out your kitchen window while you do dishes like you were, do you?” He could practically hear the smirk on his boyfriend’s face and shook his head. “As I suspected.”

And I could've been the child that God took home,
And I would've been one more unfinished song
And when it seems a rhyme is hard to find
That's when one comes along
Just in time

He took in a breath, nuzzling against Damon’s neck before saying, “Can I ask you a question?”

Their feet continued to move to the song and he replied with “Anything.”

“What do you think of Europe?” There. He just came out and asked. Well, it wasn’t exactly the right words he needed to ask, but it would get him there hopefully.

“Europe? That’s a different question… I suppose I like it. They’re very different overseas.” He paused for a moment. “I grew up in Italy, actually. But why are you asking about Europe, Scott?”

Scott was mildly curious to Damon’s growing up in Italy, but he had to stick to his point. The words just kind of…fell from him in one blurb. “Charles has this account. I didn’t know about it until he died, but he took all the money I ever made during the summer and put it in there after I gave him it. It accumulated and I took some of it and bought two tickets to Paris for ten days.” He stilled and pulled back to look him in the eyes. “Will you… I mean, do you want to come with? Me. To Paris.”

I remember that day
When our eyes first met
You ran into the building to get out of the rain
Cause you were soaking wet
And as I held the door
You wanted to know my name
Timing is everything

Damon smiled lightly before giving a soft kiss. “I do.” The smile grew and he asked, “When do we leave?”

An attempted innocent look crossed Scott’s face and he told him, “Tomorrow… It’s an overnight flight out of Newark. They were a good price and-“

“That doesn’t change my mind. I’m still going, Scott. Why wouldn’t I?”

And I could've been another minute late
And you'd never would've crossed my path that day
And when it seems true love is hard to find
That's when love comes along
Just in time

He smiled warmly at Damon, happy that it wasn’t all for nothing and already he could feel little bursts of excitement bubbling up. “Thank you!” He wasn’t sure why he was thanking him exactly. For agreeing to go with him or just being around in general were both possibilities.

“You don’t have to thank me, love.” He smirked with a pointed look.

You can call it fate
Or destiny
Sometimes it really seems like it’s a mystery

Love… Scott ducked his head slightly and looked back up at him. It probably wasn’t the most ideal time to judge how he felt about the other man, but he did. He ran through everything, all of it. Scott always got the same feeling when he was with Damon and felt it was only right.

Cause you can be hurt by love
Or healed by the same
Timing is everything

“I love you.”

For a moment, Damon stared at him. He was worried he’d just said the worst thing to say in the situation until he was caught up with the pair of lips pressing against his own.

It can happen so fast
Or a little too late
Timing is everything

The kiss could’ve lasted forever and Scott wouldn’t have minded, but his lungs needed the air according to the hands that fisted into Damon’s shirt as he pulled back an inch. He could hear his heart pounding in his ears, but jeeze, why wasn’t Damon saying anything? A worried look crossed his face just as Damon said, “I love you too.”

He broke out into a grin and gave Damon a quick kiss. Scott was fairly certain not even rain could damper his mood now. Squeezing his hand gently, the mutant took a few steps back and tugged Damon’s arm towards his room. “We should pack. C’mon.”

Neither of them noticed the song had ended as they exited the kitchen, but Scott mentally stored it away as his new favorite song.
