I turned around from Out of Bounds right into working on the new scenic painting/backdrop for The Black Vault. Lately, with all the non-stop painting, or so it seems, one of my mantras is "work faster, work harder". I don't have time to luxuriate in thought. I don't have time to sit back and contemplate what to do next at length. I have to make snap decisions and go go go.
Does this make me a better painter? I don't know. It does make me an efficient worker, that's for sure.
On Wednesday afternoon I primed the backdrop of the stage with two coats of white primer.
On Wednesday at 10:40pm or so I started sketching out the overall look. On Thursday at 3:30am I cleaned up and left for the evening.
On Thursday at around 2:00pm I started painting again. By 7:30pm I had finished and cleaned up.
That was faster than usual for me, but I was working quickly the entire time. My arms and hands are sore.
It's for The Black Vault, The Hideout Theatre's September/October improvised horror in the style of H.P. Lovecraft show.
This particular scenic painting is using images from the old black and white film "The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari" and the landscape paintings of Nicholas Roerich for inspiration and appropriation. I'm happy with how it came out.
I have a stack of painting commissions to work on. I have a list of Hideout stuff to do. I have list and piles of life stuff to take care of.
I'm still so mentally and physically exhausted. I just need to do....nothing...right now.
