Specialty Hair

I don't spend a lot of time doing fancy things to my (now) long locks, usually. Wash, condition, spritz with heat protector spray, and then blow dry.
My hair is very straight, and so I don't need to straighten it with a flat iron. Now that it's long the weight makes it automatically straight. Right after I blow dry it I can twist it into a bun and then untwist it later for wavy hair. If I want it to be super shiny and sleek I flat iron it. I have three different sizes of curling irons if I want to curl it. My hair takes curl pretty well.
But, usually I blow dry it and go. I often clip the left side up so it's out of my face. I don't like how it looks in a pony tail so I only do that when I'm working or lazy. I left it down when I was painting a few weeks ago and got paint on some of the tips. So I learned not to do that next time.

I'm not super into grooming. I don't own a ton of products or spend a lot of time in front of the mirror everyday. But I do enjoy trying out new things with it. It's easy and never permanent.
I've had a lot of hairstyles over the past 5 years...

When I was 18 I dyed it blackish/dark brown for awhile. Curled it sometimes, had side bangs. (I think this kinda how I looked when Roy first met me...hair, shirt, and all...except I had red tips)

This is as short and boyish as it ever got, I think.

Mostly I let it hover around this length. Not my favorite.

I kept getting it cut into an asymmetrical bob for awhile. That was pretty cool.

My hair grows pretty fast and soon after I got a cute cut like this, I wouldn't quite be able to maintain the sleek bob and before I knew it, it would be creeping down to my shoulders again.

I like to change it up, and it had been short for a long time. Time enough for a change. So I've let it grow out for over a year (yeah, that takes a lot more patience and is less fun than dying it or cutting it on a whim). I got it cut earlier this summer to get some layers in it. And now it's really long for the first time since I was a pre-teen like this:

"I can barely hear the ocean over the noise of this mall portrait studio..."

Deciding to grow it out, starting the journey.

I made it look nice with straightener/curler a few months ago for a headshot session.

And this is pretty much how it looks now, with my basic care regime, sans make-up, product, clips.

It seems to look alright and other people seem to like it, so I'll keep letting it grow and see what happens.
BUT!
Now that it's long, I should be able to do all kinds of cool things with it, right? I've put it up in a few fun ways for shows - braided pigtails, half in a bun on each side with hanging curls for Dickens, and recently an updo for New Year's Eve.
But what I've really been craving lately, is doing something more exotic. More unusual.

More Mucha-like.

I discovered Mucha's work in the best way possible. Right in the middle of his museum in Prague. He mainly made beautiful illustrations, prints, and paintings of women (using models for reference) and was a huge player in the art nouveau period. His work is still greatly enjoyed today, and you can easily see why. Timelessly beautiful and elegant. Organic. Soft. Touches of rich color.
Yeah, I love it.

So here's how his work ties into my desire for "specialty exotic hair"...
I want to buy a bunch of flowers with large colorful blooms. I can't decide if I should do real or fake. I guess fake makes more sense. I want to curl and twist my hair up and decorate it with large and small blooms on each side like a Mucha girl (with an eye for balance and such, of course).
My 24th birthday is coming up soon, on the 15th of January, a Saturday.
I have my friend Samar's wedding in the afternoon but the night to myself. I haven't quite decided what to do beyond dinner with friends, but maybe this is the perfect day to try this hair adventure out. Maybe at the beginning of the day, but probably after the wedding before going out for the night.

What do you think?
I'm pretty excited about the challenge, myself.
