[The attentive may notice that the Warrior's voice sounds slightly thicker than usual. Having pushed himself hard during the invasion, once Loe confirmed that it was over, he collapsed into bed and passed out. He only woke up about ten minutes ago.I hope that no one was badly hurt during the recent invasion, and that those who were injured are ( Read more... )

[Woah woah woah wait.

Someone is... talking to him? Over the communicators?

This is so weird.

The Warrior does get a reply, though it's delayed, and the ID number is not Xanth's own. Plan "Hijack Aqua's Comm" is go!]

Y--

Y-- uh.

[Throat-clear.]

Y-Yes, I, I-I'm-- f-fine.

Are... you?

[He is concerned about you, Xanth! You seemed terrified nervous, so he wanted to make sure that you hadn't expired of fright over the mice and rabbits.]

Yes. Those creatures were somewhat less dangerous than those I am used to fighting.

[Given that they didn't even come up to his knees.

Also, the Warrior is still pretty technology illiterate and hasn't spoken to the same people enough times to notice ID numbers yet - he goes by voices. So he will not notice that Xanth has hijacked Aqua's comm yet!]

[No expiration here, Warrior! But there were many unspoken "I told you so"s regarding cute animals and their danger levels.]

Th...that's, u-uhm, th... th--that's g--good.

[He hopes there's a lull between attacks that's good and long. Then again, if they had to yank in people from other worlds to deal with their problems, then things had to be desperate indeed. Even he's not naive enough to believe there's safety in Vertiline.

And now for an awkwardly long pause.]

[The Warrior does not recognize awkward pauses.]

Do you have some means of defending yourself?

Sir Warrior!

[Mezzaline sounds quite pleased to hear his voice over the communicators.]

I do hope you fared well upon the battlefield; I found our enemies rather easy prey.

[Literally.]

[Spiderfriend! :D]

The enemy was not what I was expecting, but yes, I fared well.

[He got a couple of minor scratches from the rabbits, but other than that escaped injury.]

Have you been well?

[By which he means, has your injury healed?]

I have.

[And it has. She's got an ugly scar now, but it could have been worse. She could have died, after all.]

This place is not so terrible. I do wonder, though - what sort of troops were those? They were no more than beasts! There was no organization to their efforts! Only scrambling, biting, and then burning!

It is certainly more peaceful than I am used to.

[In fact he's been going slightly nuts without anything to do. He doesn't know how to relax.]

Somehow I doubt that the creatures we just faced are the only variety of enemies. If so, it makes no sense that we were Called here - after all, it was not difficult to eliminate them, only time-consuming. I am certain that the local inhabitants could have defeated them on their own. Our presence only sped the process.

Aside from a few minor scratches inflicted by the rabbits, I escaped unharmed. And you?

It helped that they did not multiply when slain.

I need a new helmet. Mine is unfortunately not suitable for fighting in this terrain, but it is...precious to me, and I do not want to damage it.

Is it necessary for me to bring my old helmet?

[This is Warrior-speak for "yes, I will meet you there".]
