I was so certain that I wouldn't be getting this done on time. I'm going to be dead at work tomorrow, but it's done. Yay!

Lovely - I've only read one of the Smith series, but that felt very true to it. And yay Dawn! for caring.

to be honest, it was a toss-up between Dawn and Buffy for awhile there, but I eventually felt that Dawn fit the bill better.

As far as the other series. . . . I only managed to finish one and a half before the due date. But McCall Smith paints such a vivid picture of the country and has such a distinctive voice for Mma Ramotswe that I didn't find it difficult to aim for a similar style.

Glad you liked it! Read the others in the ficathon if you haven't yet, it's a wide variety of excellent writing.

Lovely. I've never read the Ladies' Detective Agency books, but my parents lived in Maun in Botswana for several years and you've very much captured the atmosphere and the people as they have described them to me.

Xander's 'It's good to have a routine' line totally cracked me up.

My wife curiouswombat is a big fan of the books and I'll point her in this direction later.

Reading the books and researching the country has made Botswana rise to near the top of the list of places I'd like to go eventually. I'm glad I seemed to have captured it well.

The 'it's good to have a routine' scene originally starred Andrew, actually. I think it shaped up better, this way.

And I do hope your wife enjoys this, too.

I liked hte image of the other slayers standing watching during the fight. And this fits in well with Mcall-Smith's style. Wonderful!

Thanks! I could just see Xander turning Slayer anger into something useful and educational for everyone.

Now, if you haven't already, go read the other Scatterlings!

Oh, this was fabulous. I've only read the first of the Detective Ladies stories, though I do eventually want to pick up more, and this so rocks my world. I love it.

I'm so glad! I read the first one back last summer, and when this challenge came out, I immediately went for Botswana and the next book in McCall Smith's series....

I may have to do more adventures of Mma Ramotswe and Xander. I don't think they got to interact enough in the story....
