I loved this!!! Haven't read a casefic that good in awhile. Or, come to mention it, such a great pre-series. Rock on.

Having never really written a flat out casefic, that makes me got "EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE" and flap my hands.

Thanks! I'm totally rocking pre-series bunnies of late. Glad to hear it worked on this one.

Also, guess which part of this inspired me to post this prompt to the hoodie-time meme?

Ha! That's one of those details that you write and go "wait, this is a thing, right? I've heard of this elsewhere, right?" but can't quite source.

Man, that was a HOOT. PIRATES! And I love how steeped in history the casefic and setting were. And poor, poor, dean. This really speaks to his mental state circa s7, absurdly blaming himself for EVERYTHING. And I so knew something was up with John from the moment Dean caught him outside playing with the coin (Ever see that episode of Buffy?), and it just made it so much harder to see Dean blame himself for how coldly John was treating him. GUH.

Now, how much of my soul do you want to write that epilogue with John tending gruffly, but worriedly to his sick kid?

But wouldn't it be so much better to simply imagine that epilogue yourself? ;D

details are fun!...

More than that - they really sold your setting and your fic! I didn't realize I missed pre-series casefics until I read this one! Thanks for sharing this!

This was great fun! I took a tour-boat trip on the Potomac a couple years ago, and another boat trip on the Erie Canal, so this brought back some very strong sense memories. Great little local legend (you gotta love those), and, dude...PIRATES! I really enjoyed reading it, and I'm beyond mystified as to why you've only got comments from three people (four, if you include me).

Anyway...YAYS for this. Thanks!

Well, it's a 15,000 word case fic that I've so far only posted here and to the 50states comm, and that less than 12 hours ago.

I'm glad you liked it! Thanks for commenting!
