It's been 100-plus, temps-wise, here for at least 4 days. Actually, at 10 p.m., it's still...
That's right, it feels like a delicious 90 degrees. I know you're supposed to drink a lot of water when it's hot, but unfortunately, I hate drinking water. I know, I know, how do you hate water? Well, whatever.
The only way I like it is really cold, with a twist of citrus (lemon, lime, what have you). So, here's what I came up with, inspired by the water that I've been served in the chichi spas at the
Crescent Court and the
Gaylord Hotel. Only this doesn't have to be drunk while you're wearing a white bathrobe (but if that works for you, go for it).
Cucumber-Lime Water
What you need:
1/2 cucumber
2 limes
potato masher
ice water
1) Wash and slice cucumber and limes (you can peel cuke if you like.)
2) Put the slices in a pitcher. Gently "mash" the slices--you're really going for more of a squeeze, to release the cucumber and lime juices.
3) Top with ice and water, and stir.
4) Serve!
5) You can re-use the slices by refilling the water several times.
*If you don't like cucumber or limes, try apples, oranges, lemons, or grapefruit. You can also add crushed fresh mint, basil, rose petals or other herbs for extra flavor.
