Broken resolutions already...

But a girl needs some retail therapy every now and then.  And when she has a gift card, and possibly even when she finds out that one of the discount fabric stores is closing soon.  What else can she do but to promptly break her resolution for no fabric buying?

So yeah... I might have been a little bad this weekend.  But really, did I not say that I needed fabric for a civil war ball gown?  And when you've had a crappy day, and pretty much a crappy week, what's better than going to JoAnn's with a gift card and finding 100% silk in the Red Tag Clearance section which is also 50% off?  You'd do what I did and buy pretty much all of it.  At 4.50/yard you wouldn't be doing too much damage right?  Especially when the gift card covers most of it!

And look!  Now I will have a fabulous green ball gown.  I am going to *cover* it in lace.  Literally.  I bought 216 yards of lace on ebay a few months ago and have been waiting to have a project I can just go crazy on.  And for 1860's that's sooo perfect.  This will be my Laced Lime-Rickey dress (I couldn't resist giving it a fabulous name a la gilded_garb).  The only thing I have to figure out is how to gather this lace... there is no gathering thread in it. :P  I've used it on a couple other projects so far and haven't been too happy with the results... but more about that later.

Crappy iPhone photos that don't capture the color just right... but it's pretty close.

Then I went down to jennil 's house yesterday and she told me that Saftler's was closing!  Oh no!  Maybe we need to go and just see if they are having sales or anything!  And yeah, even thought they're not having sales, their regular prices are still so freaking amazing, it's hard to reign it in.  So yeah, I bought 12 yards of fabric, most of it at $2/yard, the rest at $1/yard, and about 15 yards of trim.  The trim was more expensive than the fabric but it is pretty fabulous.  And yeah, this fabric is mostly synthetic, but it doesn't look it!  Actually, I don't know what any of the content is, but really it doesn't matter.  Cheap fabric is awesome!  And it's so pretty, see?

The bottom blue and green are the silks I got at JoAnn's... the rest is from Saftler's.

So, I am feeling much better.  If slightly more guilty and light in the pocket (but not much!).  And now I am REALLY not buying any more fabric.  I seriously have enough to clothe an army!  An army of fabulously dressed women!  But really, just one woman, and that will be me!!!  Bwahahahaha!

Ok, I'll stop now.  At least about the fabric.  I should share what I've been up to this week sewing wise.  I could not get inspired for a Regency ballgown at all this week.  So instead I am just making the blue spotted drop front dress from Patterns of Fashion.  And of course I decided to be crazy (mostly because my neighbors are crazy and won't let me sew on the machine too late in the evening) and hand sew it.  Which I am actually enjoying.  I hope it fits when all is said and done!  I did a mock up and so far so good, but you know how sometimes, you have this image in your head of how a dress will turn out and then worry that it's totally not going to be like that when it's done?  Yeah, that's me right now.  It could be very good, or it could be a little bit of a let down.  I'm hoping to have most of it done by this weekend, so I can move on to the 1860's ball gown (which maybe I should call an evening dress, as, since I've been looking at fashion plates, that seems to be drawing me a bit more... but more to come on that later).  It is the dress I will need next after the regency.  And then it's back to my original list, which at this point is looking like Floral Francaise, NA Riding Ensemble and if I can get to it the Stripey Polonaise before Costume Con.

These new fabric purchases are kinda throwing off the list though... just a little... we'll see... ;)

Now off to watch Downton Abbey!  I am loving the series so far!  And so yes, some of this fabric is earmarked for Edwardian... :)

Oh, also photos to be posted soon from the 18th century 12th Night Ball I went to last weekend!
